Wayne Frederick Johnson, Sr., 85, a longtime resident of Granville County passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.

A native of Halifax County, he was the son of the late William Patrick Johnson and Mamie Britt Johnson. He was a member of Scotland Neck Baptist Church, served in the Korean Conflict, earned a Purple Heart and was manager of A & P stores until he retired. He later devoted himself to their ceramic business. He was also very proud of his carpentry work and his vegetable garden.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 15, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Eakes Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford by Rev. Cam Ford. Burial will follow at Meadowview Memorial Park.

Surviving are his wife of sixty-four years, Geraldine House Johnson of the home, three sons, Eddie (Marjorie), Patrick (Dale), and Al (Mary Ann), six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne F. Johnson, Jr. and his siblings, Clifton, Carlton, Helen, Edith, James Edgar and Harry Johnson.

Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to Maria Parham Oncology Cancer Center, 566 Ruin Creek Rd., Henderson, N.C. 27536.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 15, 2016 from 12:30 – 2:00 P.M. at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford.
