Mr. Stephens was born in Roanoke, Alabama October 1, 1940  to Robert Lee Stephens and Elizabeth Pinkard Stephens.  He was a member of the Sandy Ridge United Methodist Church, Was church treasurer, and past chairman of the board of the church, He retired from Liberty National Life Insurance, later operated Stephens Finance in LaFayette, retired volunteer with the LaFayette volunteer fire department after 27 years of service, and worked at Jeff Jones Funeral Home.

 Survivors are his Wife of 52 years Carol Shaver Stephens of LaFayette, Al. 2 sons-Brent (Kesha) Stephens their children Britten Stephens, Jessica & Maddy Meadows, & Justin Decker of Opelika, Al., Phil (Lisa) Stephens their children Ashley & Anna Stephens of Camp Hill, Al., brother-Don (Martha) Stephens their son Robert Paul Stephens of Jackson, Tn., sister in law Lynda (Mitchell) Underwood their daughter Amy Underwood of Opelika, Al., Aunt Fay Walters of LaFayette, Al.
