This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Wayward Chengelis, 70 years old, born on February 21, 1951, and passed away on August 7, 2021. We will remember him forever.
I will miss you forever my iconic mentor, friend and dear teacher. You fought so all of us could have lives worth fighting for and danced in the rain to a music all of your own, Thank you for making me smile. Hugs to you and all who are watching from The Rainbow Bridge <3
Wayward was the best person I ever worked with. He was also the best activist I every knew. He worked very hard all of his life. He deserves to be remembered and known about by all. I miss him - even though we didn't talk a lot - we didn't have to - he took care of business in the Cannabis world - I backed him up doing what I could online. His group on FB has 23,000 people in it. He definitely did something right! The USMjParty will never be the same without him - Much Love to You Bill! May you shine like a diamond and your Spirit be over us forever.....
Wayward Bill, One of the nicest person I’ve ever met. I’m so glad I was at the Portland bus terminal. I would have never been introduced to a true Activist. You will be missed so much. You could move mountains if you thought is was for the greater good. Thank you Buddy for all you did and all the people you helped. Rest In Rainbows my dear friend. We will win in the end! ❤️
Hayward Bill and those red musical notes in Richmond California. Those white gloves miming asking for a miracle ticket. And when we needed him he was there. When in prison he started China Dolls a newspaper for deadheads behind bars and anyone who found themselves incarcerated. And then he became Wayward Bill and focused his energy on legalized marijuana. When we last spoke he was coming back from a little vacation gambling. And his text that he had cancer was just a blow. All I can say is He was truly one of the best tour heads. Not concieted just in the moment and having fun dancing. This one hurts.
Hard to believe you are gone. Events won’t be the same with you not there. Miss you. Thank you for all you did as a friend and as an advocate for freedom.
Bill I met you at 16 . You and Melody were together on Bissell and Elm. You were chill then and even at 70 . You became hope and light to many who sought other than the norm of medications. I respect you and hope you’re resting easy . God knows how you suffered . Carry on in true Chink fashion. I love you my friend.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I initially met Wayward Bill virtually on Facebook through a mutual friend. At the 420 Event this year, I introduced myself. He was so very kind and gracious, with that one of a kind smile, and had an aura of divine goodness about him. I feel like I have known him forever. From what I have read from you all, THAT is Mr. Wayward Bill. A Warrior, A War Hero, A Kind Soul, and now an ANGEL that will continue to protect and guide us. No more suffering my friend....SOAR high! XOXOXOX
There are not many who come along that are quite like Wayward Bill. With his signature smile he not only won a place in all the hearts he graced, but Bill was a righteous warrior against prohibition and a staunch advocate for his culture. Bill's work is very noteworthy and he leaves a legacy of activism and advocacy that should serve as an inspiration to all who come forward to do the hard work defending social justice. Like a Ripple on still water, the rings of Bill's contributions will continue outward as we honor him by picking up his sword of truth and marching forward against injustice in his name, and in the names of all those who have come before him. We stand on the shoulders of giants. Fly high brother, your work here is done.

I only just heard the news. My condolences to family and friends. Knew Bill from way back on the old MSN/Windows Live spaces. Bill.. tell my mom "That Sixties Girl" (Carolyn) that I said hi, and I miss her terribly. You always had a profound and positive affect on the people you encountered through life. Your presence will undoubtedly missed in this world. R.I.P. my longtime friend..
