His Life
July 28, 2017

Mr. Wendell Clinton Price was the second child born to the late James and Eunice Carter Price in Ensley, Alabama on March 22, 1950. He transitioned from this life on Sunday, July 23, 2017.

He attended the St. Mary’s Catholic School his primary years and Middle School at Roberts Elementary, where his interest grew in the school chorus and the marching band under Alphonso Gaston. He graduated from E. J. Oliver High School in 1969. After graduation, he matriculated to the Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama and joined the Marching Hornets Band as a drummer and a tuba player known as the “Silver Bullets.”

Wendell enlisted into the United States Army where he achieved the rank of Drill Sergeant. His tour included Korea and Germany. While stationed at Fort Benning, this allowed him to spend time with his uncle and aunt in Lanett, Alabama. Here he met and married his wife of 44 years, Theresa Cumberlander on June 2, 1973 and became the proud parents of one son. After his military career he became a Federal Firefighter on Fort Benning Army Base where he retired after 22 years of service.

He confessed his faith and hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Moody Temple CME in Fairfield, Alabama. He later united with the St. John Baptist Church under the late Rev. C. C. Cloud where he was faithful and active in the Mass and Male choirs. Later, he joined the St. John Community Baptist Church where he continued to sing praises to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Wendell enjoyed a very fruitful and active life. In his leisure he enjoyed grilling, gardening, and attending Alabama State University football game halftime show; but above all he loved his family and singing.

He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife: Theresa Cumberlander Price, Phenix City; a loving son, Terrance Wendell (April) Price of Lanett; one brother, Dr. LaFayette (Connie) Price of Detroit; two uncles, Attorney Clinton Carter and Andreal Carter of Detroit; three grandchildren, Zhayera and Chasity Coty, and Grayson Price, of Lanett; three brothers-in-law, Waymon (Carolyn) Cumberlander, and Ulus Cumberlander, Jr. of Lanett, Mario Cumberlander of Phenix City; two sisters-in-law, Janice and Olita Shvelle Cumberlander of Lanett; two special friends Barbara Meeks, and Bernard DuBose of Fairfield; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
