We are heartbroken with the passing of beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Wendy Dewell. She died peacefully in her sleep on March 15, 2021.
Wendy will be remembered for kind and friendly spirit, her ease at making familial friendships with everyone she meets, and her love of bridge, the symphony and opera. Wendy had a long and successful career at IBM for __ years. Once retired, she enjoyed traveling the world with her husband Kent.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Dewell, her son-in-law, Ken Diaz, her grandchildren, Grayson Diaz and Avery Diaz, and her step children, Todd Dewell, Tom Dewell and Ginger Berolzheimer and their families.

After the tragic death of her husband, David Kent Dewell in 20__, Wendy suffered from depression. We ask that donations in her honor be sent to ___  which assists in promoting awareness and ending the stigma of mental illness.

We ask loved ones to leave a tribute or share a memory here. A small memorial will be scheduled later this summer in San Jose, CA.

Hello Beth, we are so very sorry to learn of your mother's death and to also learn that your dad had a tragic death. Wendy is the one who taught my friends and I bridge which we still enjoy greatly. I remember outings your mom, my daughters, you and I took as well as sharing our babysitter, Jane. And, of course, working with your mom at IBM. She was a gentle soul and was so very patient when teaching us bridge. Would love to hear from you. Paula, Emily, Mindy and Jim Christensen

Dear Elizabeth and family,
I was so sorry to learn of Wendy's death. We shared a love of bridge, and I met her playing bridge at the Woman's Club; an interest in birds, and she came at my suggestion to the Los Gatos bird store to get her supplies regularly. She came to know he owner of that store and we traveled to Panama with a birding trip led by the owner. Wendy had a gently demeaner and never made any of the less well-accomplished players feel bad. I will miss her.

I met Wendy late our freshman year at UCLA. She was a good bridge player even then.
One of the more unusual (and to me, unexpected) aspects of Wendy was her as a mother. Once when I was back in the States, I visited Wendy and Kent a year or so after Beth was born. When we were outside on the lawn, Beth was fascinated by a small frog trying to hop through the grass and by crawling was getting close to grabbing for it, when Wendy scooped her up, tickling and cooing to her as a distraction. Up until then I hadn't thought of her in that regard.
She was a good friend for a long time and I will miss her very much.
