Wilbur Farrar “Luke” Boyd was born on February 24, 1935, to Laura Eunice and James Coburn Boyd in Palmerdale, AL.  As a young man, he was fascinated with automobiles and worked at the Pontiac plant in Michigan, gaining the necessary skills he later used to build and race stock cars with his childhood friends, winning many trophies with their team.  Using these skills, Luke thrived as a mechanic and eventually owned his own automobile parts stores in Birmingham and Mobile.  After retiring from this field, he became a real estate agent and worked as a security guard for a gated community in Hoover.   He enjoyed reading historically-based novels about World War II, as his brother, James Coburn Boyd, Jr., died serving his country in Patton’s Third Army during that war. Luke was preceded in death by both parents, his brother, and his sister, Joan Boyd Ray. He is survived by his wife Kathryn Morgan Hoagland Boyd of Hoover, AL; daughters Laura Rylant (Danny) of Montgomery, AL, and Leslie Boyd of Oxford, AL; grandson Dylan Rylant; niece Donna Gail Bagley (Brian) of Belt, MT; step-daughter Kathy Armbrester (Robert), step-son Larry Hoagland (Lucy) of Birmingham, AL; three grandchildren, Jennifer Brakefield (Chris), Michael Armbrester (Diana), and Andrea Austin (Robert); eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. On Saturday, July 22, 2023, Luke was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
A Celebration of Life will be on August 5th at Greystone Farmhouse at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
