William E. Devor, 89, of River Edge, NJ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at the home of his daughter, Hilarie Locke, in Englewood, FL. He was born on September 11, 1923 and was married to the late Barbara Pembridge Devor, who predeceased him in 1998. He is survived by his sister, Sally Ford, of Irving, TX, as well as a loving family which includes daughter, Danisha Devor-Mackesy, her husband, Billy Mackesy, and their children, Conor and Kyra. Bill and Barbara were blessed and proud to have shared in the raising of their daughter Hilarie Locke and sons Cuong, Tam and Hai Nguyen. He found great joy in his grandchildren: Shannon and Jordan Locke; Adalyn, Danisha Marie, Lynn, Ethan and Emma Nguyen; and great-grandchildren Samantha and Cameron. He will be missed by his extended family: Perry Locke, Christine Nguyen, (BD) Bich Duong and Khanh Nguyen.
Bill served as a U.S. Naval signalman during World War II, and was discharged with honors, including the Victory Medal. After graduating from Parson’s School of Design, he became a fashion illustrator. He was employed at several fashion buying offices in Manhattan and was proud to have been asked to create windows for Bonwit Teller on Fifth Avenue, on several occasions.
