Celebrating the Life of
William Ervin Hamilton
“Bill”

4/1/1945 - 3/26/2021
On 3/26/2021, William was taken up by the Lord peacefully as his mission here was complete.
Bill is predeceased by his father, Floyd Hamilton and mother Elizabeth Hasty Hamilton.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Patricia Lynch Hamilton. They were married in Mayville, MI at the Mayville United Methodist Church on March 28th, 1970.

Bill is lovingly remembered by his sons Jason (Carrie) and Justin (Amy), his grandsons Patrick, Dillon and Alex, his brother Richard (Erma), his nephew Brent Shears, and great nephew Matt Shears.

Bill was born in Bad Axe, MI on 4/1/1945.  He graduated from Elkton Pigeon Bayport High School in 1963.  Bill obtained his B.S. in Education from Central Michigan University in 1968.

William "Bill" Hamilton, began his 30+ secondary education career with the Mayville Schools in 1968. From 1968 until his retirement in 2000, Bill Hamilton left many impressions on a great number of students. He taught Physical Education from 1968 to 1973. From 1973 to 1979 he taught History and then began teaching Government with some History and Geography, however his favorite subject was a practical Consumer Education course he put together for graduating seniors. In this class he taught his students “life skills” that he hoped would help them succeed in life beyond High School, and indeed, many of his students still recall those lessons.

As well as teaching, Bill coached various sports including JV Football, Varsity Basketball and 9th Grade Basketball. He also officiated girls' Volleyball as well as boys' Basketball and Football games. In April 1987, he coached the High School Academics Team to a first-place win in the Social Studies Division at Saginaw Valley State University.

Bill especially enjoyed traveling throughout the world, spending 5 months out of the year on South Padre Island in Texas as well as enjoying their home in Northern Michigan.

Bill’s wish was to be cremated, and given these challenging times, the family has chosen to have a virtual celebration of his life.  Both the virtual celebration of Bill’s life and condolences for the family may be offered online through this Forever Missed website.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in remembrance of William "Bill" Hamilton may be made to one of the following organizations:
- Mayville Area Ambulance Service
- Mayville Area Share Shop
- Mayville United Methodist Church
- First United Methodist Church in Port Isabel, Texas (for food pantry)

Mayville lost a wonderful man. He will be missed by many. I had him for Government in 1976 I fell asleep in class. He took his pointer stick and hit my desk, scared me. Never fell asleep again.
He was a wonderful teacher.

Mr. Hamilton was a wonderful teacher, I still remember what he taught us. He passed on so much knowledge and shared so much time with students, it’s amazing! I’m so happy he had many wonderful retirement years! May God bless his family with comfort and joy.

Mrs. Hamilton, Jason and Justin,

My thoughts are prayers are with you. As has been said here many times already. The students at Mayville were very lucky to Mr. Hamilton for a teacher.  He always had a smile on his face, he was kind and caring, and we are all better people for having him for our teacher.
Thank you Mr. Hamilton

Condolences to the family, the community has lost a great man. He was definitely one of my favorite teachers in High School. Made a lot of impressions on people that will last a lifetime by "talking turkey" in the hall with students.
Thank you Mr. Hamilton.

Tricia, Jason & Justin
The world has lost a truly wonderful man. I don't think I ever saw him with out a smile on his face. What a positive example for all to follow. He touched the lives of so many over the years and the impact he left with them is unmeasurable. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you go through this difficult time. May you know he is looking down on you, smiling and protecting you.

Although I only met Bill a handful of times I got to get to know his son Jason very well these last few years working beside him day to day. Jason is a hard working, competitive spirit, a giver from the Heart, a loving husband to his Wife Carrie, a loving Father to his boys Patrick and Dillon, a caring Spirit for those in need, a true friend, a mentor, and blessing to know him. Bill did a great job instilling these attributes into Jason and molding the man I work beside everyday. I strive for these values daily in my own life with my own wife and kids. Thank you Bill for loving Jason the way you have throughout the years as it has impacted my life and many others daily and forever.

Bill and Tricia were very close friends when we worked together in Mayville. Then we moved and it was harder to retain a close friendship from a distance while raising a family, However, those trips to Florida ever spring break.  Bill driving the whole way , down and back. They sure were fun

We are so sorry, Tricia, for your loss.

I was an exchange student at Mayville High in 85/86. I had two teachers which impressed me very much this year. One was my English teacher Mr. LaGraff the other one was Mr. Hamilton. In his government class I learned a whole lot about the US. Mr. Hamilton was always interested in us exchange students, our countries, our point of views, the differences between cultures. I had a lot of respect, because he wouldn't take any **** from nobody, but he did it the right way. His mustache was huge and his laugh even bigger. When I returned after my stay I went to see him a couple of times in his home in Mayville. And I was happy and pleased that he actually took time for me and enjoyed seeing me again. What a teacher! I bet his loss is hard on the family and friends. My dearest condolences to all of you. Mr. Hamilton was a very special person.
