William F May nickname “Oscar” born January 17, 1940 passed away on May 9, 2020 formally of Audubon NJ. He was survived by his wife of 27 years Patricia A May. Predeceased by father Herbert May, mother Ruth May, brother David May and son William May. William was a beloved brother of Herbert May, Ronald May and his one and only sister Lila Havens. He was loved by his children Cecelia Lupton, Catherine Stewart, Elizabeth May, Herbert May, Ruth Hawk and Jennifer Hawk. Oscar and his wife Pat raise their grandchildren Rebecca Hawk and David Hawk Strange who they adore and love like they are their own. He was also blessed with many great grandchildren, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his beloved dog Daisy.
Oscar by trade, was a welder at Penn Trucking and was well respected for his skills over many years. What he loved the most was spending time with his family and friends. Oscar always stopped by with a soda in hand and a hat on his head. He was a collector of hats but liked wearing the police hats he would get from his nephew Mike every year.
Oscar’s passion was fishing and he always had a fish story to tell. This was his favorite past time with his son Herb, family and his friends. He loved deep sea fishing and did a lot of fishing locally.
Oscar was serious when it came to all kinds of cars. He had a need for speed. He would race at Atco Raceway with his Ford Lightning and Chevy Blazer. Oscar had a car called “The Judge” that he street raced in Audubon. Oscar also had a 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible which he lovingly restored for years, only to race it down the 42 with his son in law Greg who had a 1975 Trans Am Convertible.
Another prize possession was a 1923 T Bucket that won him multiple trophies at the antiques shows that he like to visit. Throughout the years he would buy all style of cars and fix them For resale. He could talk about any model and tell you how to fix it.
Oscar enjoyed watching sports and was an avid fan of football and baseball and certainly had an opinion about the different teams. He wasn’t a big fan of basketball but would watch it with his grand daughter Rebecca because it is her favorite sport.
Oscar’s favorite hangout was Gaetano’s Pizza where his daughter Liz works, and he could sit there for hours reminiscing with his friends. He also loved his animals like his pet dogs, exotic birds, and a cat called Skippy.
He will be truly missed but never forgotten. A celebration of life will be announced at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of William May to Moorestown Visiting Nurses Assn. at www.moorestownvna.org/donate would be deeply appreciated.
