His Life
February 4, 2011

Born in New York, New York, Bill passed away on Monday, January 31 following a courageous nine month battle against lung cancer.  Bill graduated from Burke RC High School, Goshen NY in 1960 and Hartwick College Oneonta NY in 1964. He also obtained a masters degree. A former resident of Florida, New York, Bill was a thirty-three year veteran teacher touching the lives of almost 5000 students.  His teaching passion was seventh grade English at Washingtonville Middle School.  In 1996 when deciding to retire, he refused a party and instead invited everyone to visit him in his new home in Daytona Beach.

In addition to his career as a teacher, Bill owned and operated a summer bed and breakfast, "The Plaza", in Provincetown on Cape Cod.   The summers were infamous for gatherings of friends from around the northeast and Bill maintained those friendships throughout his life.

Upon moving south, Bill quickly established himself as the “host of the neighborhood” who always had the coffee on and the door open.  Never meeting a stranger, his new circle of friends grew quickly.  His 14 years in Daytona were full of visits from his friends from Maine to Key West and parties both small and large, especially the Christmas Eve parties, to introduce his many friends to each other.

Bill had an elegant sense of style that was showcased in his beautifully decorated home and outstanding landscaped yard.  Bill enjoyed auctions and finding special items that always seem to be exquisite. His passion for cooking and entertaining were only matched by his joy of gardening and making our home beautiful.
