ForeverMissed

This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Bill Hicks, 88, born on October 11, 1925 and passed away on July 16, 2014.  Bill was a World War II veteran, firefighter, and retiree from Los Alamos National Laboratories. He was a wonderful husband, great father and was a role model without equal. He promoted Christain values, fairness, brotherly love and American patriotic values in all with whom he interacted.  Dad had careers as a mine worker, Air Force B-24 nose gunner, Captain of the Los Alamos Fire Department and a builder of many a classified bomb gadget.  Hard work, generosity, responsibility, and a "lets build it" attitude were his charters.  His passion for the Masonic Lodge, genealogy and craftsmanship will live on.   Thank you for visiting and sharing your love for our beloved husband and father. Bill is survived by his wife; Mickie Hicks of Montrose, CO, his daughter Debbie and son-in-law Steve Vining of Montrose, CO, and his son Leslie and daughter-in-law Charlotte Hicks of Escondido CA.  Bill was the proud grandfather of Brian and Chris Vining, and Janine, Julie, and Sarah Hicks.  Dad was able to enjoy the first seven years of his great-grandaughter Lorelei Vining.

A memorial service is tentatively planned for Monday, August 11, 2014 at 10 AM. Early arrival at 9:30 is suggested. The service will be at the Veterans Memorial Park in Grand Junction CO, lasting approximately 20 minutes.

Dear Family and Friends,
I uploaded the memorial service for Dad. I have to say, memorial services are not supposed to be great, but this one was. I was so proud of the job that the Grand Valley Combined Honor Guard did. It was wonderful, well performed and showed a true honor to my father. The video can be found in the gallery tab under videos. When you select it, a blue process bar will appear and for about 3 minutes the screen will be black while the video player loads. Please be patient, once the bar has reached the end you will see the first video scene, hit the play button and enjoy.

Mickie,

We were so sad to learn of Bill's passing. I enjoyed working with him over the years and fondly remember the coffee break discussions at GMX-7. He really had fun winding up Bob Dinegar. Bill was a delight and will be missed.

It was such a joy to know your family and to work with Bill for so many years. We truly enjoyed one another and I have such fond memories of talking Harmon county and genealogy with Bill. My heart goes out to you in this time of loss.

Bill was a good friend. We carpooled to work and later played poker at the White Rock Senior Center until Bill found it too difficult to go out on Thursday evenings. He will be missed. I'm sorry for your loss.

If asked to do a eulogy for Bill, I would be unable to speak without crying. I knew this day was coming but I still wasn't prepared to lose him. He had been unable to get around much these last few years but we were together at home and I still had him. I don't know if I'll ever get over this "aloneness."

Bill was a family man. He was generous to a fault. Before his lungs played out on him, he was always physically involved with the family. He was funny and loving. We loved him dearly and he will indeed be "forever missed."

Mickie: I am so sorry to hear about Bill. I had no idea that you moved to Colorado. I hope you are surrounded by a loving family.

I moved to California to be near my daughters.

Love, Phyllis Holland

Mom and Dad were prolific photographers, I estimate thousands of 35 mm slides at the house. I just uploaded a few, with some that Charlotte and I took recently. Many, many more to come, hope you enjoy them. You can find them in the gallery tab of his web site, or watch them cycle on the left of this page.
