His Life

Born Aug. 15, 1925, he was a son of the late William and Viola F. (Cornstuble) Allred. He loved life and was active in many things. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a rigger at Laclede Steel until his retirement. He was a self-taught carpenter, build- ing three houses for his fami- ly. He was active for several years as a royal ambassador leader for Bethany Baptist Church, influencing many young men. During his retirement, he became an avid woodcarver and square dancer. He was a member of the Wood Carver's Club in Alton. He was a mem- ber of the Wood River Hoedowners Square Dancers Club, where he held the posi- tion of club historian for five years. He and his wife served together as club treasurer. A lover of many things, he enjoyed drawing, painting and writing poetry. He enjoyed camping, and he and his wife spent several retire- ment years camping in Texas. He was also a member of the Hibbard Masonic Lodge in Brighton and the American Legion in Jerseyville. He married the former Ada Cavashere Aug. 23, 1946, in Piggott, Ark., and they were married for 54 years
