William Joseph Goldring, Jr. affectionately known as “Willie” was born to the late William Joseph Goldring Sr. (Jiggs) and the late Mary Virginia Goldring (Babysis) in Hughesville Maryland on June 12,1954 and transitioned into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 16, 2020at the Washington Hospital Center. On July 16, 2000, Willie was joined in Holy Matrimony to his loving wife Deborah .Through their union they were blessed with the birth of their son Rodney. Baptized in the Catholic Faith at St. Marys Catholic Church, Willie began his education at St. Mary’s Colored School where he received the sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation.He then continued his education with the Charles County Public School System graduating from Thomas Stone High School in 1972.After graduation he began his career as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service which encompassed 35 years of service as a Carrier at West Bethesda, Friendship and Ward Place Stations and as a truck driver in the Motor Vehicle Branch.Upon retirement he began employment with International Limousine Service, Inc. later renamed RMA Chauffeured Transportation driving limousines and shuttle buses.He chauffeured many celebrities around the Washington Metropolitan Area including Paul McCartney, Condoleezza Rice, Mark McGuire and Kid Rock.He also chauffeured Pope Francis’ staff during his visit to the United States specifically his parade in Philadelphia.He was awarded the International Limousine Service, Inc Safe Driving Award Five consecutive years.
Willie was an avid fan of baseball, drag racing and playing poker.In 1997 he and his cousin Bobby Briscoe put together the Wicomico Hawks Baseball Team in the Chesapeake Baseball League.Together they managed and coached along with cousin Charles Thompson and longtime friend Calvin Washington a Championship Team that included his sons Kvon and Kentry Kinard, nephews Marlon Jones,Anthony and Vaughn Queen, Keon and the late Duane Gaskins, cousins Floyd and Anthony Curtis and other family members and friends.He even managed to convince his cousin Larry Thompson to come out of retirement.The team won the Chesapeake Independent Baseball League’s Championship in 2000.That was a proud moment for him and the family.He also coached the Stevenson Athletics Little League Baseball Team in 2007.
After baseball came drag racing.Willie loved gathering his sons and heading to NHRA AND IHRA Races all over the East Coast.He especially loved the Pro Mods that raced in the IHRA.He also loved supporting and being part of the Pit Crew for The Survivor Motorsports’ Corvette/Firebird Race Car. Going to the various tracks in Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Tennessee, North and South Carolina with his brother-in-law Lawrence Jones, his nephews Marlon Jones and Gregory Johnsonwas one if his favorite pastimes.
Just this past winter, Willie along with other family members and friends started a Friday Night Poker Circle where the games lasted for two days.He loved the game and would play all night and the next day.
To quote Willie’s cousin Kia Washington ‘If you only knew what it was to be in a house when he entered a room.If you knew him, you understand!It was never a dull moment.You would be in tears.Many laughs, jokes and stories.He is a legend who will truly be missed.Gone, but surely will never be forgotten.Willie’s selflessness was insurmountable.He was a true believer in do unto others and you’d have them do unto you.He loved his family and his friends and when asked would help in anyway he could never ever breathing a word about what he had done.
Preceded in death by his son Kalon Goldring, his parents William and Mary Goldring, grandparents Joseph Bernard and Janie Curtis, Rodney and Romaine Goldring,nephew Duane Gaskins and father-in-law Reverend Clyde Hill, Willie leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife Deborah, sons Lawrence, Rodney, Kentry, and Kvon, grandchildren Jakayla, Kalani and Kaydence, Mekhi and Kwazi, sisters Harriet Gaskins (Kenny), Beverly Adams(William), Joyce Jones (Lawrence) and Gale Goldring, mother-in-law Pastor Annie Hill, sisters-in-law Valerie Spriggs and Harriet Jackson, nephews Anthony and Vaughn Queen, Marcus Brown, Marlon and Michael Jones, nieces Canice and Brooke Jones, aunts Gloria Robinson and Brenda Goldring, uncles James, Jerome, Kenneth and Leonard Goldring, a host of great nieces and nephews, special cousins Robert Briscoe, Thomas, Francis and Floyd Curtis, Carlos Green, Valerie Countiss, Saundra Holt and Diane Reeves, godmother Dorothy Holt, goddaughters Brianna Queen and Shalevia Briscoe many cousins and a multitude of friends.
