Mr. William L. “Billy” Oliver, 83 year old resident of Lanett, died Sunday morning, May 1, 2011, at East Alabama Medical Center

Mr. Oliver was born Saturday, May 28, 1927 in Lanett, Alabama, the son of the late Harvey Lee and Emma Sue Holladay Oliver. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lanett, the Men’s Club, Happy Medium Sunday School Class and served on the Administrative Board. Mr. Oliver graduated from Lanett High School, served in the United States Navy during World War II and retired from West Point Stevens after 33 years of continuous service.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, May McDonald Oliver of Lanett; one son and daughter in law, Bill and Denise Oliver of Lanett; 3 grandchildren, Katie Oliver, Kristen Oliver, and Karlee Oliver all of Lanett; one sister, Ann Oliver Batson of Lanett; a niece and her husband Linda Sue and Steve Perryman of Valley, Alabama; 2 nephews and their wives, David Lee and Debrah Batson of Wetumpka and Jimmy and Tammy Batson of Opelika; several great nieces and nephews.
