This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, William Vernon, 65 years old, born on October 17, 1942, and passed away on April 8, 2008. We will remember him forever.
I never knew if my Dad actually liked working on cars or if he was just good at it. My first car memory was an old Volvo he had purchased when stationed in Darmstadt W. Germany (which is where my little brother Shelby was born). He had that thing shipped back from Germany but I dont remember it ever running in the U.S.. Instead I remember the 1972 Pontiac Grand Prix. He loved to tell the story of how he saw it at a great price in the newspaper but when he got to the dealership they told him that the only one they had was in the back. They had taken the seats out and laid them in the car, had the hood up, etc. all to make it look like junk. He said something to the effect of "Well, you've got mechanics. Fix it." They fixed the seats and he bought it at the advertised price. Out of all his cars I think that one was his favorite (or maybe its just the one that occupied most of my childhood). There were others, a little Honda that was chain drive when we were stationed in Misawa Japan (a celica too but that one was just the family car), a Ford truck later on. But he had his hands in all of them and indeed, was pretty damn good at it.
