His Life
August 26, 2019
William Rodney “Billy” Sherman Jr. was born on April 2, 1957 in Detroit Michigan to Joyce Tolliver (Birth mother) whom preceded him in death and was raised by his mother and father Ruth and William Sherman of Cincinnati Ohio, whom also preceded him in death. Billy went to elementary school at Evanston Elementary and graduated from Walnut Hills High School class of 1975 with a large group of good friends and where he played on the basketball team. As a young boy he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and became a member at Inspirational Baptist Church along with his parents.

After graduation he continued his education and played basketball At Sue Bennett College in London, Kentucky. He graduated in 1977 with his Associates Degree in Business Management and met his wife, Marcia Word from East Bernstadt, Kentucky. Later, he attended the University of Cincinnati to further his education.

William and Marcia married July 26, 1980 and had five children; two daughters LaToya and Sierra and three sons, DeJuan, BT and Derrick. He worked for Hostess Wonder Bread as head of the sanitation department in Cincinnati, Ohio and later moved to Columbus, Ohio and continued working at Hostess Wonder Bread as a bread route driver for 15 years.

He and his family moved back to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1990 where he became an entrepreneur and created many relationships with a lot of people along the way. He volunteered at the Soup Kitchen feeding the homeless and worked the Deveroes basketball summer league. He was a mentor to many and he touched many lives.

Billy was one of a kind and if you were fortunate enough to have met him, you do have a “Billy” story. There will never be another Billy Sherman for sure.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Marcia Sherman, two daughters, La Toya Sherman, Sierra (Eric) Leaks, both of Cincinnati, Ohio. Three sons, De Juan Sherman of Cincinnati, Ohio, B.T. Sherman of Norfolk, Virginia,  Derrick (Sadie) Sherman of Birmingham, Alabama; nine grandchildren; Jay Sherman (22), Marques Sherman (18), Jaylen Sherman(17), Tyla Chappell (9), Dezmyn Davis (8), Titus Chappell II (7), Trenton Chappell (6), O’Karie Woods (6) and Xayden Sherman (6mons), one surviving sister, Diana “Lynn” McBride. Darrin Smith, preceded him in death, of Detroit, Michigan and one surviving brother, Lamont Smith of Detroit, Michigan and surviving Uncle, Eugene Tolliver of Detroit, Michigan. Billy also had a special lady friend, Shell Williams and her children, Debbin Williams, Richard Williams and Tamara Jenkins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We will all sadly miss him.
