Bill's life overview

February 11, 2014

William Walter Boardman, Jr.; June 2, 1916 to February 1, 2014

Bill Boardman was born June 2, 1916, to parents William Walter Boardman, Sr. and Edith Ferne in Rugby, North Dakota. They moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Bill attended Coe College, with a triple major of mathematics, physics, and chemistry. After graduating Cum Laude from Coe College in 1938, Bill married his college sweetheart, Ruth Preston on Sept. 6, 1941. He obtained his Master’s degree and PhD in Physical Chemistry, both from the University of Iowa, Sioux City, 1942 Bill and Ruth retired in Oceanside, CA.

He served the nation during World War 2 by his work as head of a research department on the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, TN. Then Bill continued his career in research chemistry with the Lithium Corporation of America, and also served as a college professor and Head of the Chemistry Dept.  He held several patents, wrote numerous articles published in scientific journals, and was a member of Phi Lambda Upsilon (an honorary chemical society), Sigma Xi, a scientific research society, and the American Chemical Society.

Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth (married almost 52 years), and by his parents Walter and Ferne, and sisters Mildred and Elora. He is survived by his sister, Edith (Boardman) Arne of WI, and by his six children: Ruth (Perry), Jeanne (Mike), Mary (Bill), Martha (Earl), Joy (Jon), and Bill (Daphne). Bill and Ruth will be greatly missed by their loving 27 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren, multiple nephews, nieces, and friends.

He was a godly man of the Lord. Bill was loved and respected for his devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ, his lifelong service to Him, and for his respect for the infallible Word of God. He was also known for his love of family, and his great strength of character and integrity. We take comfort in knowing Bill is united with the Lord Jesus, and with those of his family who preceded him into the presence of our Lord.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to RC Sproul’s Ligonier Ministries, http://www.ligonier.org/, The Alliance for Confessing Evangelicals, or Providence Christian College, Pasadena.  A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at Harvest Presbyterian Church, 380 Mulberry Dr., San Marcos, CA, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 2 PM.
