While we were living in Rome in the early '90s, Bill and Patti and Kurt and Sharon came and visited us. We had a wonderful time, and shared many of our experiences living in Italy. One of the things we laughed about was how hard it was for Italians to pronounce my last name: the 'H' is silent in Italian, and the Italian alphabet doesn't include a 'y'. So people would pronounce my name as 'eeg'.
Next day, we're driving out to see the sights, and out of the blue Bill asks 'do you play the saxophone?' Huh? what? "Well, if the only letter in your last name is a 'G', you must be Kenny G". We all came close to hurting ourselves laughing so hard. Only Bill could come up with something so clever.
Fast forward 20 years. Same foursome is visiting Charleston, South Carolina, and Lana and I get to share some time with them. Day 2: "Have you learned to play the saxophone?"
I very much look forward to seeing Bill again, and sharing laughs forever.
