His Life

Bill as he was called by his family and friends, accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church (Aberfoil Community) in Union Springs, AL. Upon relocating to Tuskegee, he united with the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon in 1985. In 1988 he relocated back to Union Springs, Alabama and reunited with Elizabeth Baptist and served as Assistant Chairman of the Deacon Board for several years. In 1994, he returned back to Tuskegee and reunited with Bethel and resumed his position as a Deacon and faithfully served until his health failed. He began his education at Aberfoil Elementary School and graduated from Carver High School, Union Springs, AL. He then enlisted in the United States Army and after serving two years, he received an honorable discharge. Bill began his law enforcement career with the Tuskegee Police Department and later with the Macon County Sheriff Department and later with the Macon County Sheriff Department. He graduated from the Police Academy in Montgomery, Alabama. A career change came about when he was hired as one of the first Black Bus Driver for the Greyhound Bus Lines East where he remained for 16 years. He was elected to the Utilities Board of Tuskegee for 12 years and served as Chairman of the Board for 8 years. Bill was employed by the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care Systems (CA VHCS) Police Department where he retired as Sergeant in 2008 after twenty-five years of service. He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).

  Bill leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 43 years, Eloise Oliver Anderson; four devoted children, Daryl Gibbs, Willease Anderson Burts, Felicia and Willie C. Anderson, Jr.; five brothers, Joe (Idell) Anderson, Everett (Katie) Anderson, both of Springfield, MA; Clifford (Doris) Anderson and James Anderson, both of Union Springs, AL; and Wilbert Anderson, Tuskegee, AL; six sisters, Odell Penn, Union Springs, AL; Mable Finney, Springfield, MA; Sarah J. Simmons, Perry, GA; Olgie Anderson-Lee, Atlanta, GA; Malinda F. Anderson, Perry, GA; and Beketha Y. Anderson, Union Springs, AL; Six sisters-in-law, three brothers-in law; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two uncles, three aunts, one great aunt, and a host of other relatives and friends.
