On the morning of October 28, 2011 Bro. Willie L. Jackson (“Bill” or “Big Jack”) departed this life at VistaCare Hospice of Columbus, Ga. He was born January 11, 1928 to the late Robert and Mattie Jackson.

He joined the navy (1946-1947) and was honorable discharged in 1947.

He married Catherine Bryant, daughter of the late Sam and Mittie Bryant of Talbotton, Ga. in June of 1949.

He took the vocation of bricklayer for many years, later becoming a stone mason and self taught architect. He drew numerous building plans both residential and commercial and was a building consultant to many who requested his services.

He was as active member and deacon of Valley Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. L. S. Seldon and later Rev. Curtis Johnson.

Recently Bro. Jackson became ill and his health swiftly declined leading to his death. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Catherine Jackson; two sons, Calvin S. Jackson and Weston Lee (Sharon) Jackson; one daughter, Rita Angela Jackson; one granddaughter, Jessica Teara Jackson; and two sister-in-laws, Martha Culpepper and Mary Nell (Jimmy) Cook. He also leaves to mourn, three brothers, Copeland (Minnie) Jackson, Roosevelt (Loretta) Jackson, Sandell (Lavern) Jackson of Detroit, Michigan; one sister, Lillian Pearl (Andrew B.) Hall of Atlanta, Ga. He is joined in death by three brothers, Felton Jackson, Robert Ezell Jackson, Jr., and Anderson Jackson and one sister, Mattie Ruth Green. In addition he leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Bro. Jackson (daddy) touched a great number of lives and influenced the hearts and minds of countless others – he was greatly beloved and will be greatly missed.
