Her Life
November 1, 2011

Winifred Nolan passed away on October 29, 2011 after a brief illness.  She was born December 20, 1926 in the Netherlands.  In 1945 she met and married, John Nolan, who was a Canadian soldier, serving during WWII, in Hilversum, Holland where she was living with her parents.   When the war ended, she joined John in Toronto, Canada, where they lived until 1958, when they moved to North Hollywood, California. Winifred and John retired in 1989, and they decided to move to Oceanside, where they especially enjoyed walking along the beach in Carlsbad.  Winifred worked for The May Co. for about 25 years as a manager and buyer.  After John passed away in 2000, she volunteered at Tri-City Hospital becoming Co-Chair of the Auxiliary Gift Shop, donating thousands of hours and working tirelessly to make it very successful.  Winifred had a wonderful sense of humor, a great wit and always had a smile for everyone.  She loved to play Sudoku and Bookworm; she had an amazing vocabulary and spoke several languages.  Winifred also held several positions on the Board at the Oceania retirement community. Winifred is survived by her daughter Terri (John) Fitzgerald; her son, Mike Nolan; brother, Dennis Rees (Barbara); granddaughter, Krista Nolan; grandsons, Rob Fitzgerald (Michelle), Ryan Fitzgerald (Ellie), Michael and Danny Nolan; great-grandchildren, Alex, Timothy, Riley, Samantha and Jonathan Fitzgerald.  Winifred was predeceased by her son Martin, who passed away just this last December.  She will also be missed by many brothers and sisters-in-laws in Toronto, Montreal and British Columbia, as well as her close friends.  Winifred was a caring mother who was always there for her children, supporting them in any way she could.  There will be a Memorial Mass at Mission San Luis Rey Parish Chapel at 9:30AM on November 11, 2011 with internment to follow at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Seasons Hospice at www.seasonsfoundation.org .
