Winona Vicilyn Hansen (Vicky), of Palm Springs, CA, passed to her glory home on the evening of December 10, 2018 at the age of 84.
Born August 11, 1934 in Denver, Colorado, she was the youngest of four girls born to Victor H. and Alma Lorena Fair. Two sisters, Alice Nadene Petrie and Carolee Joy Ewing, preceded her in death. Her surviving sister is Lou- Nell (June) Melendy of Madill, Oklahoma.
Vicky graduated from East High in Denver, Co., and married Robert (Bob) Hansen in 1952. She was baptized at East Side Christian Church and was active in Christian Endeavor, City Wide Hymn Sings, many service projects, taught Sunday School, and served as Mailing Secretary for Brazil Christian Mission.
She worked a short time at Wonder Bread Co in Denver, but her passion was for child care which became a lifetime endeavor. She and her husband Bob provided loving foster care in their home for over 100 special needs children through the years.
Vicky had a love for books from an early age. After moving to Walnut, CA she trained for and became a librarian for Christian Chapel School, where she was loved by many children as they shared adventures and counsel through the years.
God gave Vicky a faith and positive attitude (plus a little stubbornness) to carry her through many health issues including a car-pedestrian accident that left her with a severely crippled leg in her early 20’s. Her sense of humor took her through all her tough times, and she never stopped praising her Lord.
Bob’s death at the early age of 54 in 1984, was devastatingly hard to understand as there was still family to raise and years ahead. After the death of her sister Cay, she became caregiver for her ailing brother-in-law, Richard E. Ewing until his passing. But filled with the Holy Spirit’s guidance and Faith she and their four beautiful children carried on successfully.
Vicky is survived by:
Steven Lee Hansen and wife Becky of Palm Springs, California
Marjorie Hansen Klish and husband David of Denver, Colorado
Paul Hansen and wife Laura of San Diego, California
Tehani Lites of Dallas, Georgia
12 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren
Her heritage to loved ones are the many prayers she has prayed for their future.
SPECIAL NOTE: It’s Mother’s wish that “in lieu” of flowers or the expense of travel to a funeral service where she will not be in attendance, please donate to your favorite charity or help someone “in need”. No matter what Mom was faced with, loving people and caring for those less fortunate was her greatest desire.
On behalf of our family, we deeply appreciate all the phone calls, cards, social media posts and utter admiration for our dear Mother.
God Bless,
Steven, Marjorie, Paul & Tehani
