Gailand A. Woodward, age 71, of Montpelier, Ohio passed away late Thursday November 15, 2012 at the University of Toledo Medical Center in Toledo following a brief illness. Mr. Woodward was retired from the US Navy. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked for various Naval based Defense System companies.
Mr. Woodward was born in Napoleon, Ohio on February 5, 1941 the son of the late Glen B. and the late Pauline (Goodwin) Woodward. On October 6, 1962 he married Nonnie Coopman and she survives.
He enjoyed singing and spent many years volunteering at nursing homes singing for the residents. He, also, was active in prison ministry and he and his wife instructed marriage classes for the community at his local church.
Surviving besides his wife, Nonnie are three sons; Allen (Elaine) Woodward of Montpelier, Gailand Woodward, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA, Joseph (Suzanne) Woodward of Blacksburg, VA and grandchildren; Curtis, Luke, Kara Jo and William. Also surviving are brothers; David, Dean and John Woodward and sisters; Diane McCormick and Melody DeMars. Preceding him in death besides his parents was sister; Janice.

"I always miss u this time of year....there is so much u gave me....from such a young age...I would literally skip from the elementary school to my house knowing that you and grandma would come....and then you would be there in just a few days from then....I would grow up and we would share the first smoke of the year together...just you and me....relaxing after a long, busy, and crazy year....a breath of fresh menthol air :) that both u and me shared....Thank you for showing up again around this time....and even today...xmas service at the nursing home and they decided to play music for an extra ten minutes...and one of the songs they played was "Because He Lives" that is an easter song that they played among xmas songs... sang in the same place u sang that very song for my residents....i sang it every word just stopped in time.....and remembering.... and when you showed up in my car when my mind was so heavy with thoughts.....i am so glad u are around grandpa....giving me even more memories to share...."
