Chief Mrs Yemisi Agunbiade - Sanusi was more than a woman, three times a lady and a hero. Her strength and drive is immeasurable. She stood for nothing less than excellence.

I cannot just believe it that it is exactly one year ago that she left us without saying goodbye. I celebrate her today and always for she was a woman of many parts, looming larger than life in everything she did. * A Mother * A Grandmother * A Sister * An Aunty * A Friend * An Humanitarian * A Guardian * An Instructor * A Mentor * A Counselor * A Character Moulder * A Confidant * A Reformer * * A Care Giver * A Heart Giver. It was a real privilege to have known her. She loved me like I was her blood Sister and I felt the same way about her. I will forever cherish the times and memories we spent together. I remember her daily with affection. Her contributions and landmarks in the lives she imparted lives on. Continue to rest on my darling Sister in the bosom of the Lord that you loved, cherished and lived for until we meet to part no more. FOREVER IN MY HEART

TRIBUTE TO CHIEF (MRS) YEMISI AGUNBIADE-SANUSI

The news of the death of Chief (Mrs) Yemisi Agunbiade-Sanusi came to us a shock and disbelief, especially given the fact that there was no prior news of her sickness.

Chief Yemisi Sanusi was an admirable, ever cheerful and patriotic individual, who gave her time, resources and skills to serve her community, especially Nigerians diaspora community. Her professional skills as a Nurse and Social Worker, are always handy in all what she did. Her ability to manage people and bring persons of different diversity together for the common goal of service was very unique. Hence she served on the Board of Trustees of our organization, Nigerians In Diaspora Organisation Europe (NIDO Europe), as the Director of Events (2008-2010). She served meritoriously.

Even when she was no more in active involvement in NIDOE, she was still monitoring and mentoring those at helm of affairs of the organization. I remember that she always encourage me and others in the leadership of the organization to continue to fly the flag and try as much as possible not to let the labour of our heroes past be in vain. On facebook, she will always leave comments and words of encouragement on our group page. We will miss her moral support and words of encouragement. I, as a person will surely miss her mentoring and words of motivation.

On behalf of Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Europe and myself, I pray that Chief (Mrs) Yemisi Sanusi’s soul rest in perfect peace and that God Almighty accords her a place in His bosom. Our prayers and thoughts are with her loved ones and our heartfelt condolences to the children and all the members of her family left behind.

Sleep on, Madam! Your memory shall continue to live on! Rest in Perfect Peace!

Continental Chairman,

Words may not suffice to express the heartfelt sorrow that I feel for the passing of Aunty as I fondly called her, but my thoughts and prayers are with her immediate family and her Nigerian community family.
Chief Mrs Yemisi Sanusi was a dear big sister, friend, adviser. We work together as members of Nigerian Women In Diaspora Leadership Forum (NWIDLF), Peace Ambassadors at Universal Peace Federation (UPF) and comrades in The Labour Party.
Aunty was very supportive of my political career as well as my charitable activities. Importantly she loved celebrating me without apology. I lost counts of how many times she had posted/ commented on social media with the words... "Proud of you".
We usually celebrated each other on our birthdays, I'm 28th September and hers was 29th September.
Aunty, although you are gone from our sight, never from our hearts.
As they say in Yoruba land....please watch over your children and grandchildren. Sleep well!

I feel really emotional writing in your memory and still cannot believe that I will be writing a tribute for you this soon; my loving, ever smiling and always cheerful sister - Chief Mrs.Yemisi Agunbiade - Sanusi.

Heaven has received a precious guest.
We have lost a colossus.
A selfless and doting mother of mothers.
Death where is your sting? Grave where is your victory?

If you were still here, we would have been together today 9th April because you set that date for me seven years ago. It is the day that you always go with me to the Cemetery to pray and lay flowers on my sister's grave. It is not to be this year because God has taken back His daughter. It is so sad that you are no longer with us. Thank you so much for everything. Will love you forever even in death.

You were a woman of virtue and dignity and a role model to so many people. You were a symbol of success, love, harmony and peace. You stood out among your peers and you were well respected. We console ourselves knowing that you are in a better place because you knew God and served HIM
My condolence go to the Children, Granddaughter, Siblings, the extended family and all loved ones. Ojo a jinna si ara won loruko Jesu Kristi. Amin.

My Tribute will be a poem dedicated to the Facebook friend i never met to inspire with her posts.

A song for Yemi A Star

We met on a page of faces
in our different phases,
your heart i read in lines and words,
visible for all to see,
your shade of love spreads like rainbow
from nearby faraway place,
you remind me of humanity
each time you plant roses of love with your post on timeline,
a metaphor for your life,
Timeline of a life lived with purpose,
here is my song for your memories
i will live for love for your sake
i will always stand for humanity,
I will always share beautiful smiles,
I will remember you for your good deeds.
Adieu Yemi A Star a star that shun on hearts

In my moment of grief, I did not pay attention, so did not realise it was you, until I stumbled across a sister’s tribute a couple of days after you had passed. Shocking!

From the moment I encountered you, you were exceptional, caring and supportive. Your colourful spirit always positive and encouraging. The way you mourned my husband’s passing with me was empowering and although I may not now be able to thank you physically, I would like to thank you posthumously.

Who is man to know the time nor the place? The last time I saw you was at The NOUS conference in 2019. I remember you looking so cheerful, engaging and lively with your ever supporting spirit lighting up the room.

Death is final, yet not the end, it is the beginning of a new kind of relationship that only loved ones can appreciate. May the Lord comfort your generation, strengthen them to handle life’s events going forwards and grant you eternal rest.

May your colourful soul Rest In Peace. Sleep Well Ma’am knowing you will be greatly missed. #YemiAStars

Your Sister,
Princess Folaji

The news of the passing of Mrs Yemisi Agunbiade-Sanusi sent shock waves through my system  and I'm sure many who new and interacted with her during her life time felt the same. She was a genuine loving individual who gave all for the country she loved with her whole heart despite the fact that she battled with ill health for some many years before her death. Soon after her slimming operation her life changed but she hid her agony behind her smiles and carried on to give to the Community tirelessly. The Nigerian Community owe her huge appreciation unfortunately it is sad we have failed in doing so from the seat of our umbrella organisation. It is a surprise that she received low profile publicity of her death from this quarter.

Yemisi will be remembered for her willingness to go out there and make it better for others always bringing up ideas to resolve crisis. A woman of many bright colours with a big smile as she walks into the room. Despite   living so far away, she never misses a meeting or function in honour of her country that she loved so dearly. She is one individual Nigeria in the Disspora must give recognition for her input to uplift the image of Nigeria. I do hope her family left behind are receiving moral support from the Umbrella organisation. We shall all miss her warm personality. Enter rest grant unto her Oh! Lord Amen.

My dear sister,

I’m writing this epitaph with a heavy heart. In many ways, I’m still coming to terms with the fact that I’ll never see you again.

Words cannot begin to describe how much I loved and respected you as a sister, a friend and a confidant. Your kindness and willingness to go over and beyond to help out others was a true testament to your character.

I loved your sense of humour, your benevolent and philanthropic nature, your strong work ethic and your devotion to your service users and patients. These traits were demonstrated to full effect during your time working as a social worker and a registered nurse. Quite simply, you were a beautiful woman both outwardly and internally.

You dedicated your life to caring for those in need, including those with mental health needs, orphans and widows to name but a few. Your were an inspiration to me.

May God continue to bless your friends and family. I know how much your children and grandchildren loved you, and vice versa. Be rest assured that through them, your legacy remains intact.

You will be sorely missed, auntie Yemisi. I love you, but I know Jesus Christ our Lord loves you more.

Rest in eternal peace my auntie, my friend and my sister.

My wife and I first met Mrs Sanusi ( Yemisi ) in 1983, after we returned to Nigeria from the UK, and I was appointed a Consultant psychiatrist in Aro. She then was in charge at the social welfare department of the hospital. We remained in contact until a few months prior to her demise. I recall her supportive role in helping us to settle down in the new environment, spending late nights with us at times, and educating us about the politics of our new environment.
Yemisi was a consummate psychiatric social worker who knew her onions ( initially trained as a psychiatric nurse ). She emblematized all that is noble, inspiring and salutary. A genial soul, thoughtful and a passionate advocate for mental health. Always fighting for her patients and rabidly devoted to their welfare. She excelled at team work and would go the extra mile when it concerns the welfare of her staff.
Yemisi was a generous giver, and gave even when it was not convenient. When we were in transit at the Holiday inn, close to Heathrow, she felt a duty to visit. She didn't come empty handed, as she dropped an expensive suit and a designer handbag for both of us. When we had our first grand daughter in Manchester, she felt a duty to get in touch with our daughter in law and posted a gift for her daughter. When they needed a Nigerian passport to bring her home, a telephone chat with her was magical. She arranged for the contact at the Nigerian embassy and the passport was obtained effortlessly. Her personality and her professional calling were a harmonious marriage. She was passionate about good governance in Nigeria and worked towards it. For Yemisi, our loss is heaven's gain. A candle that lit many lives on earth is now joining many other celestial candles in her heavenly home.
We pray that God will comfort Oyinda, her siblings and the entire family ( secular and spiritual ), and grant them the fortitude to negotiate these difficult times. May her soul continue to rest in perfect peace in the bosom of her savior, amen.
Dr & Mrs Ogunlesi ( Dr Ogunlesi , former Provost / Medical Director at Aro, Abeokuta.)

The one that I can turn to for advice. She was ready to do anything to make me happy anytime am down. She always encouraged me, taught me to love, serve God and to put all my trust in God always. In her words "all will be well" You treated me like your daughter not like your sister at all.
I will miss you badly, even am already missing your passionate & unconditional love for me already. But God, you know the best.
Rest in peace my favourite, my Mother, my best friend, my all in all. I thought you will stay with us to celebrate your 90th birthday. I know what you meant to so many people, You were the best to me, You are the best one can ask of as a sister. "Who can find a virtuous woman" For her worth is far above rubies. I don’t know I will be writing your tribute so soon!
Your sweet memories will linger in my mind & your legacy forever. And I won’t forget all the love you showered on me and my daughters. I love you but God loves you more. You came, you saw, fought & conquered!  Sleep on my beloved sister, till resurrection day where we will meet to part no more.❤️❤️❤️❤️

Very sorry to hear of Yemi’s passing. She was a student on my research course a few years back. She was a dedicated and very capable student, driven by social injustice. We got to know each other outside of work too, through her volunteering work. I really enjoyed my time with Yemi. It was a pleasure to spend time with her. Please accept my condolences. I lost my mother when she was in her 60s and it was just too soon. All my love.

Her Life

Life and Legacy
Chief Mrs Yemisi Agunbiade - Sanusi was born in Nigeria on the 29th September, 1955 to Christian professional middle class parents. Her grandparents were Christian evangelists who built ‘Agunbiade Christ Anglican Church’ and a primary School in Abeokuta and Ibadan, Ogun State, Nigeria. Yemisi and her siblings (one brother and four sisters) are successful and well-accomplished professionals who are contributing to the global economy in the following fields: medical, banking, police and government and entrepreneurship. Our father was Chief Cornelius Segun Agunbiade, a retired Trade Union leader and The Baba - Ijo of Agunbiade Anglican Church. Our mother was Chief Dorcas Oladoja Agunbiade, an accomplished midwife and the Iya - Abiye of Fiditi, Oyo State Nigeria. Both of them are now deceased but were excellent achievers in their own rights, whom set an excellent  foundation for Yemisi and her siblings.

Yemisi trained and qualified as a Psychiatric Nurse from the Federal School of Nursing; a WHO Centre of Excellence at Aro hospital in Abeokuta, Nigeria in 1977. Yemisi continued her training as a social worker at the prestigious University of Lagos, Nigeria. After graduating from the University of Lagos, Yemisi proceeded to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma course at the University of Manchester and on completion of this course; she further her studies to a Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Kent in Canterbury in 1984.

On her return to her beloved home country, Nigeria, Yemisi pioneered the psychiatric social services at the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Abeokuta. She was promoted as the first Chief Psychiatric Social Worker and served meritoriously for 23 years before she migrated to work for the National Health Service (NHS) in England in 1997. Prior to her migration to the United Kingdom, Yemisi served as the first African woman appointed as the Vice President for the World Federation of Mental Health (a United Nation's accredited agency). She has  travelled widely to virtually all continents in the world promoting mental health matters at world congresses in Mexico (1991), Japan (1993), Ireland (1985), Egypt (1987), USA (2006) to name a few. Yemisi was also a wonderful wife to her late husband, Chief A R O Sanusi, who she fondly always spoke about with wonderful memories and affection.

After fulfilling her dreams of helping people with mental health and helping to de-stigmatise the issues, Yemisi took early voluntary retirement from the NHS in 2012. Yemisi was a proud mother of three British trained graduates; Lizzie - a Senior IT consultant and CEO of Eldimaa Fashion,  Diana - an international artist based in Stockholm, Sweden, and Meg - an educator. She was also blessed with a brilliant granddaughter, Khloe. Despite widowhood, God sustained Yemisi to bring up all her precious daughters successfully.
