ForeverMissed
Thank you for visiting the online memorial of Yinkann Wen, our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, teacher, friend, and brother in Christ. We created this site so family and friends could share memories and pictures of him all in one place. We welcome you to add any reflections and stories of him in the "Stories" section above. We'd also love to see any photos or videos you wish to share in the "Gallery" section above. If you'd like to leave a short message, please "Leave a Tribute" below.

As many of you know, Dad loved his Savior and loved sharing what the Lord was teaching him. He lived with zest and never took himself too seriously; instead he had a wonderful sense of humor and told jokes all the time. At the same time, he cared for others and found deep joy serving people and the church. We will miss him always, but we are so thankful for the rich relationships and community he had, both in the US and in Taiwan. God bless you, and thank you for adding your memories to this site and celebrating his life with us.

Kweiyin, Faith & Nate, Clement & Tracy, & Family,
Indeed, our hearts & deepest prayers go out to you all. May God continue to surround your dear family with His great love, comfort, strength, & peace.

Thank you for sharing the newspaper article about your dear husband, father, & grandfather, Yinkann, in the Chinese Christian Tribune. I read it & was deeply touched by Yinkann's incredible example to persevere & minister to others, living out his life as a powerful testimony despite his health challenges. I am truly inspired to follow in his foot steps & therefore, thank you for forwarding this newspaper article to us.

We will keep praying fervently for your dear family. Indeed, Yinkann's & Kweiyin's great love for God impacts so many, given that it has been passed on to Faith & Clement, who both decided to go into full-time ministry & therefore, the ripple effect of Yinkann's legacy is absolutely spreading widely to impact all of us for God's glory.

May God continue to comfort you all in an extra special way. You all are on my daily prayer list . . . will keep praying that God continue to protect you all, keeping you all healthy & safe, too.

All our love & prayers in Christ, and hugs too,

Dear Kweiyin, Faith, Clement, and family,

We are very saddened by the passing of Brother and Prof. Wen. We still remember him being the worship service speaker when we visited CBCM the first time as a family in 2009, shortly after we moved to this area and Zhijun started to work for the World Bank. His knowledge, experience, humor, and most of all his faith, have always been an inspiration to us. He has done so much, and has given so much in both his career and his service to people around him and to our Lord. It feels too soon and too sudden for him to be taken by the Lord. We hope you will be comforted by the fact that he has brought love, joy, hope, and faith to so many, and that he is with our Lord. May God continue to comfort your and bless you!

To Dearest 桂英姐妹 and family of Dr. Wen:

It’s with great sadness that we bid farewell to dear Dr. Wen – for now. Dr. Wen was not a singer, but his love for his wife, who enjoys singing with the Christian Oratorio Society, had always graced his presence to the music events and our gatherings. There are no words to express our utmost 舍不得 (reluctancy) to our dear gentle brother and an exemplary husband. We look forward to the day when we meet again.

In times like these, the song below has always brought me strength and comfort. May God give you peace.
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future. And life is worth a living just because He lives
 因祂活著,我能面對明天;因祂活著,不再懼怕;

Dear Wen Family,

It's hard to put into words my deep sorrow and sudden shock. 溫教授 & 桂英姊 have been one of the strongest supporters of my family when we walked through the shadow of darkness. I miss his teaching, laughter, jokes, and mostly, his serving heart for the Lord. He did everything with exemplary humility and endless joy. His diligence in everything is another lasting legacy. To this day, I still vividly remember the array of his personal weekly breakfasts. We will miss him dearly.

We were so shocked and saddened to hear the sudden news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague Yinkann. I could still vividly recall the days at the World Bank when Chinese colleagues had our weekly lunches at the cafeteria. At the World Bank Yinkann had amassed a huge body of economic and developmental knowledge and applied it effectively to the World developmental work at the Economic Development Institute.

Following Yinkann’s retirement from the World Bank he admirably continued to contribute in academic work as a distinguished Economic Professor at the National Dong Hwa University in Taiwan. At the same time he continued to excel in the gospel work.

In our personal life, I appreciate greatly Yinkann’s and Kweiyin’s friendship over the last thirty some years. Those years that we had celebrated our birthdays together remain forever to be our fond memories. Our family is greatly indebted to Yinkann and Kweiyin for caring and helping when many times that Kah Hie were traveling on missions away from home.

It is a huge loss to all of us without Yinkann’s active involvement. Yinkann will be in our memory forever and we know that he is now resting peacefully at the hands of the Almighty God.

Dear Kweiyin and family,

When we heard of Yinkann’s passing, a mixture of emotions welled up: Sad, regret, envy and glad.

We are sad that he is no longer in our midst, especially no longer by your side. Having lost our son to muscular dystrophy six years ago, we know how you must be grieving now. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May the Lord tightly embrace you with His love, strength, comfort and, yes, even joy.

We have known you both since the mid-1970s; our paths crossed frequently but, alas, always so brief. We were members of the same church, the Chinese Christian Church of Baltimore. You were there when the church began for the first time and were among the first group to be baptized there. Soon after, you and Yinkann helped the church to establish its finance and accounting system. But you had moved to the DC area shortly before we joined the church. We regret not having the blessing of knowing you more closely. We did have times of fellowship when you came back to CCCB (回娘家) frequently to visit and also at conferences (e.g., Ambassadors for Christ’s family conference and mission conferences). You both knew my parents Peter and Ruth Lee well when you attended the Bible study fellowship at their home in College Park. As a matter of fact, just today I read an entry of my father’s 1984 diary (the year before he passed away) saying that Yinkann had telephoned them after returning from China (Shanghai and Beijing.)  Yinkann’s warmth and being easily approachable (平易近人) gave us a sense of closeness despite brief encounters.

We are envious of the fact that in Yinkann’s final days, he was to hear the Lord Jesus’ comforting words of welcome. Oh, that we should also hear those gentle words when our time comes to meet the Lord face to face.

We are glad because though he is physically no longer with us, his legacy to you, your children and the world will continue. The impact of his ministry is immeasurable; it can always be recalled through his written words (e.g., Ambassadors Magazine, Kingdom Resources for Christ), spoken words and courses, workshops and seminars he had conducted. They will continue to speak to us.

Recently, at the height of the Coronavirus, God put an unfamiliar hymn in my heart which later I realized Cathy and I had known it but have not sung for several decades. The words so fittingly describe Yinkann’s life and ministry.

These are the words of the first verse to the hymn “In Times Like These”

In times like these you need a Savior,
     In times like these you need an anchor;
Be very sure, be very sure
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!

Just as these words appeal to the listeners, Yinkann’s ministry appealed to his audience to seek the Savior and to possess the Anchor.

Also came to mind is the song “I Know Where I’m Going,” by George Beverly Shea. It, too, so appropriately speaks to Yinkann’s assurance and confidence about his destination, actually where he is now.

I know where I’m going,
And I know who’s going with me.
I know why there’s music in the quiet summer morning.
I found a wealth untold, and silver have I plenty.
I found the Light to guide me when my way gets dark and stormy.
I know where I’m going.
But where are you going?

Yinkann’s earthly ministry was about being faithful financial stewards, about gold and silver and wealth. Yes, he knew where he was going when, in the early 1970s, he found the Light to guide him during dark and stormy days. May the same Light continue to guide you and your family from this day on and give you peace that is beyond understanding.

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints” – Psalm 116:15.

In Christian love,
Joseph & Cathy Lee

Dear Kweiyin, Faith, Clement, and family,

Warmest greetings. We were so sorry to hear that your dear husband and father, Rev. Dr. Yinkann Wen suddenly went home to be with the Lord. I know that Yinkann will be greatly missed by you and your loved ones and by many of us and friends. We pray that the Lord Jesus, "our void filler" (Eph. 1:23) will close the life gaps made by his departure.

On behalf of the board and staff of Ambassadors for Christ, please accept our condolences. Please know that we at AFC are praying for you and your entire family.

We are most grateful for the opportunity that we had to know Yinkann. He shared with me that he accepted Christ through the ministry of my father, Rev. Moses Chow. Yinkann was involved with AFC ministry from the early days for many years through family conferences, singles ministry, writer’s workshops, and more. We are especially thankful for his service on the board of directors and the finance committee. We so appreciate that he was willing and had agreed to serve as AFC board chair this year, although his health did not allow.

Yinkann’s life impacted so many. He was gracious, lighthearted, discerning, and humble; so often speaking with encouragement and showing great care and compassion for those around him. I believe that through his ministries many more are living closer to the Lord and serving God faithfully. What a wonderful Christian legacy!

It is a comfort to know that Yinkann is God’s child, beloved by God, and it is God’s promise in Psalm 23 that “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”… absence in the body, presence with God, with no more pain or suffering.

This year is the 12th anniversary of my father’s home-going. I often share a prayer that was shared with me and I appreciated when my father passed away in October 2008, titled Dealing with Loss: "God, grant me the comfort in knowing that one dear to me now has an understanding of you that I cannot even imagine. Help me to deal with my sorrow by seeing my loss as another's fulfillment of joy and peace. Help me to be grateful for the time we shared together and to rejoice in the memories."

Yinkann truly had a desire to know Christ and to make Christ known. Now he has the capacity to really know and worship Christ. We thank God that he is now in the presence and glory of his Heavenly Father hearing “well done, my good and faithful servant.”

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8

By His grace; for His glory,
David Chow

One day in year 2018 or 2019 surprisely I heard an announcement that Wen Yinkann was going to speak at a well known and respected Chinese Church near my home at Sunnyvale, CA. If my memory is right the topic was related to
" family and marriage". I was excited but unfortunately could not attend the meeting at that time. I was hoping for next chance to hear his speech but my wish was never granted! Last time we met face to face was at brother Yinkann's home in Maryland long , long time ago.
I congratulate him and his family on his accomplishments in his life. May he bless all his family and friends with love, peace and good health!

Pastor and Professor Wen and I were classmates at National Taiwan University from 1962 to 1966. We got together many times in Washington D. C. since we came to the U. S. I was shocked to learn his passing! Yinkann had an impressive life and accomplished many difficult tasks that benefited a lot of people! I admire him very much indeed!

Now, Yinkann is with the God! I pray for him and his family (Kweiyin, Clement, Faith and grandchildren). May God bless!

I have frequently mentioned to my husband Ben, especially recently, how much I admire Mr. and Mrs. Wen for supporting both of their children in attending Christian Universities, and then to enter full time ministries overseas. This is extremely rare among immigrant families, who worked hard to come to America, and for that, I have always had deep respect for your parents. Mr. Wen definitely led by example in his passion for serving God. Well done, good and faithful servant! What a legacy you have left future generations!

For the past 35 years, I had the pleasure of meeting and working with YK, who introduced me to the World Bank and taught me how to survive in a new work environment. We kept our friendship well after retirement and he always took us to his favorite restaurants whenever we went back to Washington. He will always remain in our mind. Our sincere condolences to Kweiyin and the rest of the family.

May he rest in peace.

Serving the Lord: Testimony of Yinkann Wen

Both my wife and I were born and received our primary education in Taiwan. After graduating from National Taiwan University in June 1969, I attended Johns Hopkins University that fall to pursue a Ph.D. in Political Economy. Kweiyin joined me in the US in the summer of 1971 after I went back to Taiwan to marry her earlier that year.  During our time in Baltimore, Kweiyin and I received the Lord in 1972, and we both were baptized on Easter Sunday of April 1973 at the newly established Chinese Christian Church of Baltimore. We immediately were called to serve in this then-small church.

After I obtained my Ph.D. from Hopkins, we moved to the Washington DC area and I started working as an economist at the World Bank. Kweiyin also joined the World Bank a few years later. We became members of the Chinese Bible Church of Maryland (CBCM). At CBCM, I served as a Sunday School teacher and a Missions Department deacon and coworker, for many years, while Kweiyin served in the Finance Department and in the choir.

I was called to devote my life for God’s Kingdom as a professional tentmaker during AFC’s Missions Conference of 1995. God opened ways for my serving through the reorganization of the World Bank, which offered many long-term staff members like me to have early retirement benefits. From February 1996 to January 2009, I served as a professor at National Dong Hwa University in Taiwan. In retrospect, I believe God used my position to engage in His ministries there. During my stay at Dong Hwa, I enjoyed engaging in student ministries with several Christian colleagues and nearby churches. In 2002, we offered an elective course called “Introduction to Christianity” to undergraduate students. The course has become popular since then. From 2006, I was also involved in the teaching ministry of Taiwan’s Crown Financial Ministry. In addition, I was also frequently invited to preach in various churches and on other occasions. These trainings have helped me to be a speaker.

God opened other opportunities for me to serve in Taiwan and the U.S. I have been involved in the following ministries: Kingdom Resources for Christ (KRC, founded by Lily Yang), By Streams of Water (caring for single parents, founded by Pauline Chiang), US Crown Financial Ministries, and as an editor of KRC’s magazine Kingdom. My wife Kweiyin has joined me in these ministries in the US.

We are grateful to God’s grace in allowing us to serve Him. Despite our inadequacies and unworthiness, He can use us if we are willing to obey. In fact, we do not have any credits for serving Him. “As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:14)
