Rare Gem

October 22, 2019
If there was anything that stood out about Yinka, it was how loving and caring she was. It was just in her nature. She was also very assertive, you could never mess with her! I believe those two characteristics and more are what made her impact & progress. She never let surrounding circumstances prevent her from moving forward and achieving which for me is inspirational. I remember not being able to make her birthday celebrations earlier this year, her response was “to be honest I thought you might be saving already” in reference to my wedding coming up. She was always thoughtful and selfless. We can take comfort in the fact that she lived life, overcame the odds and loved God dearly. Gods purpose and plan for you was much greater than our need of you. Rest well till we all meet again. Amen

This video summarises the 2 years of our journey as executive MBA students at the University of Surrey and reminds of of Janet.

A true fighter

October 21, 2019
Janet was a fighter. A loveable, fun, intelligent, special fighter. On the MBA, no matter her own issues, Janet constantly worked hard and delivered work that the rest of us, if we were in her situation, simply couldn’t have imagined being able to deliver. Janet always wore a smile, no matter what. I would consistently try and catch her eye in class as she used to sit opposite me, and try and make her laugh- she always tried to ignore me but would then later, outside of class, laugh with me as she berated me for trying to distract her. I miss Janet, her wicked sense of humour, her smile and tenacity. It is utterly unfair that her light is gone so soon- she deserved so much more. Wherever she is now, it will be a better place for having her, and we’re all the worse off that she is gone.

Fond Memories

October 21, 2019
I have such fond memories of Janet from our time together on the MBA. And it certainly wasn’t just about studying! I particularly remember the summer party, singing karaoke and dancing together. That was one of my highlights with Janet that I’ll always remember and her texting me to say “can’t wait to get our dancing shoes on again soon!” She was kind, funny and I loved how she always spoke her mind. We would always joke together about the food in the restaurant, seemed to be as fussy as each other! I can’t help but smile as I write this thinking about her, a true hero. God bless, Janet. Love Lydia

EMBA Story

October 21, 2019
It was the last chance to experience the best Dim Sum in Beijing as recommended by Sylvia who had already been there and tasted them - and took me and Janet there. This fast restaurant was also highly recommended by our link Chinese Study Tour guide who I think was called 'Sharon' - (anglicised). Anyway, the three of us headed out together that night. It was an adventurous undertaking because this place was far away and at least a couple of tube changes. Most of the other guys, didn't travel as far that night for food because it was the last night I think. Anyway, we got there safely - thanks to Sylvia's navigation. You can see the place in the background, lit up with orange lanterns - that's us leaving - see photo. I’ve never had dim sum before and it was really, really delicious (see photo of a single dim sum ready to be consumed by me). We ate a lot that night and left contented. BUT... when we got to the tube station DRAMA struck because we had missed the last tube home. But we were MBA students and would put our thinking caps on to get us outta this pickle. So we set off in search of a taxi. No joy.... Then, the heavens opened and it poured torrential, tropical style rain and we got absolutely soaked, drenched to the skin - and loving every minute of it!! Hailing a taxi wasn't easy but thanks to Sylvia's DiDi App we were rescued - and all breathed a sigh of relief because we were also a little teeny bit anxious that we might not get back to the hotel or might even get a little lost - PANIC!!! When the taxi turned up, we'd already been running about in the rain trying to holla for a cab unsuccessfully and laughing all the while, I think Janet might have even lost a shoe at one point or ran through a deep puddle or something like that but we were all amused at the situation we were in - and making light of it. The taxi was a Godsend and I think we all bonded a little bit more that night - it was a really good night and one that will stick with me and with us all for a long time. I'd like to share this story with Janet's family because it made all three of us laugh (see elevator picture back at the hotel of the us) but also it is just a really happy memory of time spent together on this MBA journey. Thanks Jack for linking in with Janet's Dad on our behalf. My regards and condolences go out to her family and friends. When I think of Janet I think of her kind nature, her faith in God, her family and her friends who she seemed to draw strength from and also that she was a determined, bright and intelligent person. She was also on trend! My love goes out to her family and friends.

Best wishes Jo
