Yohannes Mengsteab was born on November 8, 1992 in Asmara, Eritrea. Due to his parents study and work, he began his global journey at the age of three. He completed his elementary and secondary education up to grade 11 in Botswana, South Africa and Canada. As a result of his outstanding performance in high school, he skipped grade 12 and join Susquehanna University (SU) at the age of 16. He graduated in 2013 with two degrees: Bachelor of Science in Finance and Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He earned these two degrees with a very high distinction. Following his graduation until his passing, he worked as a financial analyst for Goldman Sachs and Boston Consulting Group in New York City. He also worked as an internee at the reputable Deloitte Consulting Group and earned practical experience. Moreover, he was awarded with a certification to practice as a Real Estate Financier under the sponsorship of Argus Enterprise. Yohannes was creative, engaged, innovative, entrepreneurial and showed his high potential early. As a high school student in Waterloo, Canada, he successfully participated in the Ontario Regional Venture Investment Competition, where he won third prize. In his freshman year, he participated in a Central Pennsylvania Regional Key Stone Business Ideas contest and won third prize. In addition, he was an active member of the SU global ENACTUS Enterprising, the President of the SU Investment Club, a member of the Economics Honors Society, Social Studies Honors Society and Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honors Society. He was also in the SU Honors Program as well as a University Scholar throughout his four-year study. When he was a second year student, he conducted research and published a well-regarded report entitled: “Recreating the Tiger: Replicating the Economic Success of Singapore in Eritrea”. This was to fulfill the requirements for the honors program. As a result, he was commended by his professors. Yohannes also co-authored with his father, Dr. Mengsteab Tesfayohannes, an article that was published in the internationally popular magazine, The African Executive.
Our beloved son Yohannes was a kind, polite, intelligent and caring young man who was concerned about the democracy and welfare of the human race. He was taken away from us on October 9, 2015 at the age of 22 and was buried at his hometown in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA. Don’t worry Yohannes, your light will burn bright forever and your torch will be carried forth by many. May the Lord Jesus Christ, receive you with open arms in heaven.

ነብስሄር ዮሓንስ መንግስተኣብ ብሕዳር 8, 1992 ኣብ ኣስመራ፣ ኤሪትራ ተወሊዱ። ብናይ ወለዱ ማህደረ ትምህርትን ስራሕን ምኽንያት ወዲ ሰለስተ ዓመት ከሎ ምስ ወለዱ ናብ ወጻኢ ሃገር ብምኻድ ናይ መባእታን ካልኣይ ደርጃን ትምህቱ ኣብ ቦትስዋናን ካናዳን ስጋብ ዓሰርተ ሓደ ክፍሊ ብልዑል ኣካዳምያዊ ብቕዓት ተኸታቲሉ። ገና ዓሰርተ ሓድ ክፍሊ ጥራሕ ምስ ዛዘመ፣ ብመንፋዓቱን ብብቕዓቱን ተመዚኑ አብ ዓሰርተ ሽዱሽተ ዓመቱ ብ 2009 ብቀጥታ ናይ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ትምህርቱ ከም ናይ ክብሪ ተማሃራይ (university honor student) ኮይኑ ብምጅማር ኣብ ዝሓጸረ ጊዜ ኣብ ዕስራ ዓመቱ ብኣዝዩ ዝለዓለ መዓርግ ብገንዘባዊ ምምሕዳርን ብቁጠባን (Bachelor of Science in Finance and Bachelor of Arts in Economics) ብክልተ ዲግሪታት ብ2013 ናይ ላዕለዋይ ትምህርቱ ዕማም ብዓወት ዛዘሙ። ብድሕሪኡ ድማ ኣብ ስራሕ ዓለም ብምስላፍ ስጋብ ዕለተ ዕረፍቱ ናይ ፋይናንሳዊ ትንተና ብዓል ሞያ ብምኻን አብ Goldman Sachs and Boston Consulting Group ዝባሃላ ኣብ ኒው ዮርክ ከተማ ዝርከባ ናይ ፋይናንሳዊ ትካላት ብብቕዓት ኣገልጊሉ። ከምኡውን ኣብ Deloitte ዝባሃል ዓለም ለኻዊ ኣማኻሪ ትካል፤ ተግባራዊ ሰልጣኒ (Internee) ብምኻን ድማ ናይ ስራሕ ተመኩሮ ወሲዱ። ቀጺሉውን ኣብ ዝሓጸረ ጊዜ ናይ መንበሪን ናይ ትካላትን ገዛውቲ ፋይናንሳዊ ምምሕዳር ክኢላ ብምኻን ኣብትሕቲ ኣርጉስ ኢንተርፕራይስ ንኽነጥፍ እቲ ዝድለ ፈተናታትን ብምውሳድን ቅጥዕታት ብምምላእን ምስክር ወርቐት ተቐቢሉ (awarded with a certification to practice as a Real Estate Financier under the sponsorship of Argus Enterprise)። ዮሓንስ ናይ ካላኣይ ደረጃን ዩኒቨርስቲን ተማሃራይ ኣብዝነበርሉ ግዜ፣ ኣብ ብዙሓት ዓውደ ፍልጠታትን፣ ትካላዊ ምሃዝነታትን ንጡፍን ዕውትን ተሳታፊ እዩ ኔሩ። ኣብ ዋተርሎ ከተማ ካናዳ ናይ ካላኣይ ደርጃ ተማሃራይ ኣብ ዝነበረሉ አዋን፤ ኣብ ናይ ኦንታርዮ (Ontario) ናይ ትካላዊ ወፍሪ ምሃዝነት ዞባዊ ውድድር (Ontario Regional Schools Venture Investment Competition) ብምስታፍ ካብ ብዙሓት ተዋዳደርቲ ብሳልሳይ ደረጃ ብምዕዋት ተሸሊሙ። ናይ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ተማሃራይ ኣብ ዝነበረሉ ዓመታት ድማ ካብ ቀዳማይ ዓመት ጀሚሩ ስጋብ ትምህርቱ ዝዛዝም ካብቲ ስሩዕ ኣካዳሚያዊ ንጥፈታት ጥራይ ከይትሓጽረ ብተውሳኺ ኣብ ብዙሓት ሞያዊን ማሕበረሰባዊን ኣደንፋዕቲ ዝኾኑ ዕማማት ብትግሃትን ብዕትቡነትን ብቀጻሊ መሪሕ ተራ ብምጽዋት ዕዙዝ ተሳትፎ ጌሩ አዩ። ከም ኣብነት ንገለ ንምጥቃስ፤ ኣብ ማእከላይ ግዝኣት ፕንሲሊቫንያ ናይ ትካላዊ ማሃዝነት ምንጪ ሓሳብ (venture ideas) ውድድር ብሳልሳይ ደረጃ፤ ኣብ ናይ ፍሎሪዳ ትካላዊ ማህዝነት ናይ ዩኒቨርሲታት ውድድር ደማ ኣብ ሳልሳይ ዙር ብምብጻሕ መንፋዓቱ ኣመስኪሩ አዩ።ኣብቲ ዝመሃረሉ ዝነበረ ዩኒቨርሲቲውን ከም ንጡፍ ኣባልን ብሃገር ደረጃ ተወዳዳሪን ናይ ENACTUS Enterprising፤ ፕረዚደንት ናይ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ኢንቨስትመንት ክበብ፤ ከምኡውን ኣባል ናይ ቁጠባን፤ ማሕበራዊ ስነፍልጠትን፤ ትካላዊ ምምሕዳር ቤታ ጋማ ሲግማ (Economics Honors Society, Social Studies Honors Society and Inductee of Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honors Society) ብምኻን ተሳቲፉ። ናይ ካልኣይ ዓመት ተማሃራይ ከሎ፤ ናይቲ ፕሮግራም ምርምራዊ ትጽቢታት ንምምላእ (As honors research requirement) “ዳግማይ ክፍጠር አቲ ነብሪ፡ ድግማ ዕውት ቁጠባዊ ምዕባለ ሲንጋፖር ኣብ ኤሪትራ (Recreating the Tiger: Replicating the Economic Success of Singapore in Eritrea) ብዝብል አርእስቲ ንኡድ ምርምራዊ ስራሕ ብምስራሕ ካብ መማህራኑ ናአዳን ኣድናቖትን ኣትሪፉ። ዮሓንስ ምስ ወላዲኡ ዶ/ር መንግስተኣብ ተስፋዮሓንስ ኮይኑውን ሓደ ካልእ ኣካዳምያዊ ኣርቲክል ኣብ African Executive ዝባሃል ዓለምለኻዊ መጽሔት ኣሕቲሙ አዩ።
