I would like to share with you someone in my life who has influenced me greatly, my grandpa. Every time I go to Festac for holiday, it made grandpa happy that he showed his joy without showing his joy but I could tell he was full of joy. Grandpa was fund of pulling my nose everytime he see’s me and for as long as I can remember, that has always brought me joy. The one thing I will miss more is his blessings and prayers for me. I will for ever miss you, grandpa mi to sure.

Good Night Dear Daddy Festac.

Death may be inevitable, life in Christ is a sure guarantee for His own forever. I am grateful to God for the privilege of having you as a father and an uncle. Although I was orphaned about 5 years ago, you never ceased to do your best in making sure I and my siblings enjoyed fatherly love and care. You were a great support for us as you provided a shoulder for us to lean on.

We cannot question God for calling you to Himself at this time for He gave you to us in the first place. We however remain grateful to Him for testimonies about your life and look forward to the reunion and fellowship as promised by our Lord Jesus Christ on the Last day. We trust God to continue to keep mummy, all your children and grandchildren from all forms of evil.

It is not goodbye Uncle, it is goodnight because I am confident we shall meet on the resurrection morning to rejoice together forever. Good night Daddy Festac.

Am grateful for the opportunity to share a few lines about my brother, father, friend, and mentor. Right from my early years on earth he was mandated by our Father Late Chief A.F.D Agbelusi to ensure within his resources that I receive proper education because our Father believed knowledge is power.

This mandate was given to someone who finished his primary education in flying colors but could not continue due to financial restraints. My late brother took the challenge and made sure I enrolled in the Primary School before the advent of Universal Primary Education of Chief Awolowo when fees were being paid. He did not stop at my primary education but ensured I pursued my education all through attaining Higher Diploma.

My late brother carried out this mandate not because he had surplus but because of his obedience to our father's instruction. He sacrificed his pleasure to make sure I succeeded in life.

He was with me through thick and thin constantly giving guidance through each of my milestones. My strong values and morales about life which I cherish and uphold till today were learnt from him. Love, punctuality, humility, hard work, perseverance, contentment, honesty patriotism and fidelity in marriage to mention a few are what my late brother is known for.

I am proud of these legacies today and will gladly pass on to the next generation. All because of my late brother. You will be deeply missed egbon.
Thanks for ALL that you did for the family. You will forever remain in our hearts.
Continue to sleep on in glory until we meet to part no more.  - Joel Awosanmi Agbelusi

“There are few words to describe the impact my grandfather had on my life, and even fewer words to detail the astounding amount of love that I had for him. When I was younger my grandpa was my role model, and his calm attitude was something that I admired and aspire to have. I am deeply saddened by his death, but I am grateful that he lived a long and full life. He will always remain in my heart. “

My Wonderful Dad.

I celebrate my dad as my role model and my teacher. I learnt the 19 states of Nigeria in the car. You were very fond of your children. You made our daily trips from Ebute-Metta to Festac in the 80s so memorable. We learnt different values, heard different stories, different experiences from you and mum. You were very gentle and patient. You taught me how to wash and clean fresh vegetables and cook.

You were always helping me when mum would ask me to do so many house chores that I couldn't finish. You were always ready to help.

You instilled Faith and Discipline in me.

My Dad was my 1st boyfriend and relationship coach, confidant and gist partner.
You taught me the Core Values of life .
I could remember your newspaper vendor that comes Every Saturday to drop off your newspapers. You were particular about Punch newspapers. Our favourite column was the issue of relationship. How to have a good boyfriend, how to identify toxic relationships, what it takes to be a woman of substance, how to have a good home. You molded me into who I am today by the Help of the Holy Spirit.

As by 1st boyfriend, you bought gifts for me. You gave me more money than my brothers. I was the gate that my brothers had to go through to get money or used your car to visit their girlfriends then. You were aware and pretended you didn't know all our moves.

You were full of Divine Wisdom and counsel. I have lost count of how many people you have counselled, mentored and impacted in your lifetime.

You were a man of Integrity. You taught me Integrity.
You were ever caring, so supportive and loving father.

Family and Gratitude were very vital to your existence. I grew up having tea time with you and my brothers then. It was a family forum to discuss how the week has been and plan for the new week.

You taught me that Money is not everything but Relationship is greater and better . Relationship is the best currency to spend in life.

In summary, I found almost all his qualities in my husband.

So glad that you were strong despite all the challenges that life threw at you.

Grateful to God for being my Daddy.
Will miss all your Ijesha proverbs and stories.
Will miss all your calls on birthday, new year, anniversary etc.

Sleep on Baba Ijesha.

A Letter to My Father
Abiodun Adegboyega Agbelusi

Daddy, I’m sure you’re watching me from heaven. I am writing to you with a heart full of gratitude for what you taught me with your words and with the way you lived your life.   Your example of love, care, honesty, empathy, determination, perseverance, integrity, and strength has meant the world to me.

How can I say a few words that will do justice to all of the years of love and strength that you gave and showed me?

One of the greatest lessons you showed me was to always take responsibility for my thoughts, attitude, and actions. You also taught me that the most precious parts of life are love, sacrifice, education, and faith.

Daddy, as your first born son, I may not have entered the world through your body but I did enter through your heart.

I remember vividly when I turned 21. You woke me up at exactly 4am and told me to always see and treat all human beings like eggs. You taught me to be kind, respectful, and compassionate to ensure I never crack or shatter another person because like an egg it is hard for people to mend. You also said that I should view this life like an egg. You taught me to always see the breaking points of life as an opportunity to look at things and people in new ways and with eyes of acceptance and forgiveness.  Thank you, Daddy. Those words have been my guiding principles in life.

You’ve gone but I feel so blessed to have you as my father and I’m thankful for the wonderful life you have given me. I want to tell the whole world that you were a magnificent man, a loyal loving husband, a devoted father, and a true friend. You were full of wisdom, a lover of peace, and an inspiration to many.

I thank you for supporting my dreams and seeing my gifts.  You encouraged me to become a visual artist instead of telling me to study Architecture which was the other program I was admitted into. You told me “Odunayo, do what makes you happy”.  Daddy, when I am creating art I am my happiest.  Thank you for seeing that and most importantly seeing me.

You were a disciplinarian who always stretched olive hands towards me, pointing out pits in my path in a soft voice. You also taught me the power of humor, the importance of humility, and the remarkable power of emotional and financial generosity.  With gentleness and strength, you embraced my siblings and me when we felt we were alone during our losses, trials, and tribulations. Thank you Daddy.

You sent me to boarding school in the countryside (Ijebu Jesa) not only to study but to learn your roots, culture, values, traditions, and to be close to your mother, my late grandma. You truly were a good man, a great teacher, and an extraordinary father. Despite all of the challenges you’ve gone through in life, including losing three of your children, you demonstrated strength through your prayers, gratitude, and consistent ability to be a pillar of comfort to your wife, my beloved mother.

When the grief of our family losses knocked the wind out of me, you were always reassuring and speaking life to me.  Your presence and words were a guiding light out of that valley and I am so grateful.  Daddy you taught me how to quiet storms by holding God’s hands.

Farewell Dad! I will forever miss you. I miss having almost every blessed day on the phone with you as you were a constant source of wisdom and support to me. You will always be in my heart. I’m so grateful and happy that you lived an abundant life and that you knew how deeply we loved you.

Daddy, please know that I will always remember your teaching and example and that we are passing down your wisdom to your grandchildren.  Your legacy continues in each of us and we are proud and humbled to carry you in our hearts going forward.  You can rest well Daddy knowing that we learned your lessons well and will honor your life with our lives.

MY FATHER, NOT MY FATHER IN LAW

It is well. It is well. Meeting papa in my early years when I was still going out with Titi his daughter was full of memories. Till his death he was someone I desire to emulate, most especially in the area of appreciation and saying the truth. He understood the power of building and sustaining relationships, even at his old age. He would check on us often via phone calls to know how we are doing.

He was full of wisdom and gentle to listen to everyone.

I lost my own father early in life, but was grateful to God for giving me another father. The joy is that he saw me as his son and not the son-in-law. When he needed to take some important decisions, he would call me to get my input before he make his final decisions.

He also amazed me when himself and mama came to spend sometimes with us in the UK. He was always studying as if he was preparing for an exams. Mostly you see him studying his bible. No wonder he was very sound mentally till his death.

Baba thank God for your life. We will uphold your legacy and principles you have taught us.

Remain in Jesus' Bosom.

Adieu Daddy Festac. I remember vividly the time myself (YaunYaun) and my brother (Olumba) as you fondly called us- used to come to Festac for holidays, how you supported mommy Festac in taking good care of us, always advising us when going back to school, telling us to watch our steps when running down the round stairs in Festac etc.

My husband,Awosola Agbelusi,my husband,my elder brother and a father to me.He has never raised his hand against me throughout the time we were married. If I get angry with him,he will laugh, and later both of us will laugh over it and that settles it. He is kind ,sensitive and compassionate. If He is angry with me,I will tell him don't forget you are my brother.

If I have anywhere to go and he says I should not go,I won't. We agree on everything. He loves children. When he needs to discipline them he will.

BROTHER ZACHEAUS: U LEFT A VOID

Severally, I took up my pen, when invited, to write a farewell tribute on you Brother Zacheaus. It later dawned on me that this was a great assignment I had to accomplish and fulfill for my family, AlobaDynasty of Ijebu-Jesa. Yes, writing out some words I just have to join together to make a story. So, what do I write or not say about BrotherZac. Really, there is something I must say out to accomplish and wriggle out of this onerous task. I would be doing so in fulfillment of your status as the great-grandson of the first daughter of the great-grandpa of AlobaDynasty.

Therefore, sir, allow me relate, what I can consider my first "indirect'' encounter with you, without ever meeting you in life. Or having any inkling that we shared some identical blood in our veins. So it happened. You might not realize how it played out in my mind then. If you did, you are now taking the secret away with you.

Back in my courting years as a student, you played a "clandestine" role promoting what could have led to a marital life of two innocent beings. Because of your proximity to the other gender, certainly, without you knowing it, the aftermath of the suitors' affairs could have ended differently as fate could have had it. Bros, we never discussed or mentioned this in later life when we eventually met in same house at our great uncle's house at Ebute-Metta. It was a brotherly task you, unknowingly performed, with love, responsibility and enthusiasm. Remember, I said previously we had never met before. Thank you brother for that great sacrifice of yours wanting to be a match-maker of two aspiring future couple. You played the script effortlessly--focusing on making a success of it.

That act of yours is enough material to forge a plot of a television love script. I am eternally grateful and appreciative of this. The other gender, reading this, will share same script with me on this premise. Why there was no mention of it in our various brotherly chats is beyond comprehension as fate would have it.

The later affinity, sprouting out in our relationship, blossomed when your caring attitude manifested when you took it upon yourself, not minding being my senior to initiate exchange visits between our two homes away from family members at Ebute-Metta. Whenever you felt it's been a while we last saw ourselves when fate brought us near each other in FestacTown--some ten/fifteen minute-walk apart--you were close by prodded by brotherly love. The following scenario vividly showed who you were as a brother's keeper. Suddenly, a knock or two on our gate would herald in an august visitor, with your amiable spouse in tow. Both of you were exemplary characters that modern marital duo should emulate. You were like June and July. The brotherly love you exhibited since we knew ourselves was immeasurable and will linger on.

It was as if destiny has another role to play in our lives when fate, unknown to us, with the Almighty GOD's push brought us together again when back home your residence at Ijebu-Jesa was planted just opposite the third house down the road away from our own villa. Baba GOD's hand in this scenario is awesome. Who else was around, BrotherZacheaus? With the demise of our senior brothers, we all looked up to you for leadership--a role you creditably performed whenever we sought for guidance. "E se pupo" sir. We appreciated all you stood for. While we shall miss your happy new month chats and greetings adorned with prayers/wishes, some of the national networks will experience depletions in their monthly tills/intakes. This a reality many here present share with me.

Your sudden departure, to us, was sore but we are consoled that GOD loves you more. The void you left, with your passing on, will be difficult to fill. Please, tell them over there about where and how you left off. Thank you brother for a life well-spent. Thanks to the lovely off-springs you left behind for creditably playing an enviable role in your life. Despite all odds, the children stood by you, your GOD was with you and you scaled through it all like a Rock of Gibraltar. Thanks to Jesus for being there for you.

On behalf of the entire AlobaDynasty of Ijebu-Jesa, world-wide, who love you in thoughts and deeds, I wish you save journey as you go to rest in the bosom of GOD, your Creator. Say hi to all relations who left before you.
Sleep on brother, father, grandfather, friend to all. ADIEU!!!

TRIBUTE TO A WONDERFUL BROTHER:
Brother, as you were fondly called by not only me, but also by all of us, The Aloba Descendants in Lagos.
When our monthly meetings were alive and ongoing, you were very active, dependable, reliable, and always available to untie sometimes nutty issues that demanded your wealth of experience and wisdom.
You were ever ready. You did all calmly and with equanimity. You earned our respect and awe at such events and on all occasions because we knew you would not disappoint.
You were revered awesomely. You earned and deserved all accolades being showered on you by all who knew you.
We have regrets we will be missing that unmistakably strong Ijesa dialect that you always employed to calm nerves.
May The Almighty God Who called you to rest, give and strengthen all you left behind, especially your devoted and loving wife, the fortitude to bear
your loss.
Goodnight brother, enjoy your well deserved blissful rest at the bosom of your Creator.

Although I didn't get to meet Daddy in his lifetime, but I've always admired part of his legacies etched in his son, Abiodun Agbelusi, a masterpiece that came from his mold. A complete gentleman. Truly, apples don't fall far from the tree. We appreciate the excellent children that Daddy has contributed to the advancement of humanity and the glory of God. May God forever have mercy on his soul, and give the family and friends the fortitude to bear this great loss.

Heavenly Father, I truly appreciate the grace you gave my Dad.
Daddy mi is the only one that knows how to brush my teeth as a child. At every crisis I had, he was always there beside me in the Hospital. I remember the issue of the N300k that I returned, it was only you that told me that I did the right thing and I have proven that money could not buy me. Daddy, I will miss our tea time together, your history gist and really missing the hugs. But I will never forget those valuable lessons on Integrity and Dignity.
Daddy mi, you are indeed a MIRROR and FATHER:
First love,
Accommodating,
Teacher of value,
Honesty,
Epitome of a Father,
Rare gem.

Love you till we meet again

Chief Z. A. Agbelusi:
A perfect gentleman, doting father and loving husband. Pa Agbelusi lived a life of integrity, loved deeply and was a rallying point for the family. He found a good thing in his wife, Aunty Ayoka, and obtained favour from God. “Mummy ti ba mi je” (Mummy has spoiled me), was his way of summarizing the tender loving care he received from his wife, and he appreciated her, and the way she elevated him amongst friends and families, ensuring all who came were well fed and entertained. He cherished her to the end, his only concern in leaving this world was her well being.

It was a pleasure to have been in close contact with Daddy & Mummy Festac for about a month in 2018. The love and dedication to each other was worthy of emulation. Peaceful and considerate, their presence brought joy and cheer. The way they bantered together and regaled me with stories of their early relationship was such an inspiration as to how marital relationship should be, and I’m thankful for that.
My heart goes out to Mummy Festac. She has lost a friend, confidant and lover. I pray for the comfort of the Holy Spirit and sound health for her and the entire family.
Daddy Festac lived a peaceful and impactful life. He was an epitome of peace, love and cheer. Never one to inconvenience anybody, he exited the world the way he lived, peacefully, and without being a burden to anyone.

Sleep well, our beloved Daddy. May God grant your soul sweet and eternal repose. Amen.

Papa Agbelusi was a God fearing and kind man. His gentle demeanour endeared many to him. We were encouraged by his steadfast dependence on God, despite life’s challenges. Our prayer is that your memory remains blessed, and that God’s grace remains sufficient to mama Agbelusi and family in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
