This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, Ziqiu Su 苏子秋, 37, passed away on March 25, 2021 after a battle with lung cancer. We will remember him forever. Please feel free to share your memories and photos on this memorial site.
May you rest well in peace in heaven. I did not know you in person but heard you from the C1 alumni group. All your family members, friends, colleagues will remember you and carry on to work hard and live happy lives with inspiration from you knowing that you will be watching them from heaven.
The last dinner Scott and I had before leaving Richmond is with Ziqiu and JoJo. It was such a pleasant coincidence. They were just engaged around that time, and were such a happy couple. In the dinner, he said with a smile, “not sure when would be the last time to see you guys”. We are so sad that we cannot get to see him again. He enjoys and loves the life. His smile brings sunshine to others. He gives lots of great suggestions to his friends.
"No one has that perfect life which begins with `Once upon a time' and ends with `Happily ever after'. In fact, life begins with `Welcome to the struggle' and ends with `You are lucky to have survived the journey'!
In the continuous rhythm of eternity, Life and Death are the same! Death is to cease breathing and to free the breath from its restless tides of life, that it may expand and seek God unencumbered! Beyond this life is when we drink from the river of silence and sing; that's when we reach the mountain top and begin to climb; when the earth claims our body, that's when we truly dance!"
May the divine soul of Ziqiu Su rest in eternal peace!
Professor Bimal Sinha (on behalf of the statistics faculty at UMBC)
We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. Ziqiu Su who was a doctoral student in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics from 2005-2010. He received his PhD degree in Applied Mathematics in 2010 under the supervision of Professor Kogan. He will be greatly missed. Those of us who got to know him during these years, either as a mentee, student, fellow student or friend, will forever cherish his memory. Our deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers are with Ziqiu's family. --Department of Mathematics and Statistics, UMBC
Dear Mrs. Su, Please accept my deepest condolences and take good care of yourself and your baby. I had the privilege to serve on Ziqiu’s PhD Dissertation Committee and participate in his Dissertation Defense Oral Examination. He did very well and we were very proud of him, expecting him to have a long and successful career. His dissertation was on clustering analysis. I was so impressed that I started looking at the field. So many years later, I am currently involved with 2 fundamental problems in the field. Too bad that I will never have a chance to talk to Ziqiu about them. Best regards, James Ting-Ho Lo
We came We saw We sat and pondered Oh a life so silly Lost and squandered!
The greatest tribute to anyone is to not forget them. Seeing others comments here today, makes me feel a little less alone in my sorrow for losing such a wonderful aspiring man. I had the pleasure of working with Ziqui for the last four years. Quiet and reserved describes him, but also funny, quickly to laugh and make jokes. So proud to have traveled so much, to so many places, but becoming a father, I believe was truly a highlight! Rest in peace my friend, you will be missed, but not forgotten!
