The purple coat.....

July 20, 2015

What the fashion model you were, so special you looked in your full, fleecy deep purple coat---topped off by those octagon shaped eye glasses.  The brothers would not let anyone forget your " STOP SIGN " glasses.  My how they teased you!  And of course, can't forget the red, white, & blue felt jeans--matching sneakers to match your best friends similiar outfit.  It was so much fun shopping for this outfit and surprising you when you came home from school.  You didn't have a large wardroom, but I'm happy for the memories of the special few things.  Let's not forget your orange dress and orange coat -- hat and black patent shoes, all dressed up to go to church on Easter at Delaware Bapist Church!!  Such happy memories, Thank You for them-- I cherish them.  Your personality matched your beauty.   All My Love,Mom.

The "Pickle" story........

July 18, 2015

I was laughing so hard as Mom and I just recalled this event that I just had to write about it here: You were about 9 or 10 and we were living at 303 Shonnard. We always hung out on the porch there (adults and kids alike). The adults would hang out and talk about adult stuff and us kids would always play around as kids do. All us kids would do flips off the banister all the time trying to outdo one another. And we'd play hide & seek all around the house. Looking back at it, it's amazing just how many things we used to come up with to keep ourselves entertained as children.
Well, this particular evening (it was just past dusk) and we were all eating popcorn and us kids were having our usual flip competition off the porch and having a great 'ol time. You had gone upstairs to get yourself some more popcorn. When you came back downstairs and out onto the porch you stepped on something (we were all barefoot this night) and you said "Hey, somebody dropped a pickle on the porch and I just stepped on it"
This was a strange comment for you to have made at the time because nobody had been eating any pickles that night. Mom had remarked back to you  "A pickle ? How could there be a pickle ? We don't even have any pickles right now"
To this you responded "Well, I just stepped on one" and as you were saying this to Mommy, you reached into the hallway and turned on the hallway lighting which illuminated the porch just outside the doorway where the "Pickle" was located. You bent over to pick up the "Pickle" so you could put it in the garbage and it was at this point that you let out a very loud "EEWWWWW !!!" and screamed "What is this thing ? It touched my foot EEWWWWW !!!"
We all ran over to see exactly what it was that you were looking down at with such disgust on the porch and what it was that had elicited such a reaction from you and there on the porch, still slowly trying to make it's way to some unknown destination lay a very large and very slippery slimy SLUG. Hahahahahaha
Of course, all the boys and I laughed hysterically about this when we'd realized what had happened. As expected, at the time, you were not amused at all. Later on in life though you often looked back at this event with me and laugh hysterically at yourself seeing the comedic value that it must have had for all us boys way back then. Missing you lots Sissy.

Mommy's little helper..

July 15, 2015

Babysitter--you crawled right in the playpen with the babies- John and Stevie.  Cool SISSY!  In between you and Johnny was Brian  with who you enjoyed mud hamburgers and "red eye shot juice".  This after singing in hairbrushes as Donny and Marie Osmond.  Every evening you and I washed dishes together--I washed and you dried and we had some of our best talks at these times.  Ricky and you did daily store runs and did extra laundries at the laundramat around the corner.  I'd have been lost without all the help--there were 7 of us by then.

Some of your little friends......

July 14, 2015

Don't suppose you would remember the song " PEGGY SUE" well anyway your first little girlfriend's name was Peggy Sue , she was named for her parents song. They lived next door to us and her mommy was one of my nurses at the Lock Haven Hospital when you were born.  Ricky, cuz Bobby and cuz Joey were your other lil friends.  You had a pixie haircut, but as you got older your hair got thick and long.  We moved to the westside of Syracuse later on and once you started school--lots of memories.  Your teacher stuck your gum in your beautiful hair because you were not to be chewing it in class!  All your life you told the story of throwing your hat in the air like your idol on TV, Mary Tyler Moore, like Mary did on the show , but yours never came back down-- it stuck in the tree.  Well, what a hoot, she shared that with everyone,ha,ha.  Suzy Lamesse on our street was your best friend and also you were sweet on her brother Lukey.  It took you forever to learn to ride your 2 wheeler, but once you did you were one happy girl.  In the summer and on cold days , you had the most gorgeous red cheeks and coming in the door were your favorite words after a hard day of play " whats to eat" giggle , giggle.  You were always drawing and loved reading the Child Craft books.

Your 1st week at home.....

July 11, 2015

Ricky said you were a keeper so we brought you home.  How exciting, a real life doll-baby,which was a favorite toy of Ricky's.  What a good baby you were--I was elated .  We had a reunion coming up to be held @ HECLA PARK right in time to welcome you so out went your step-father to the store for a new chariot, fit for a princess.  There I was the proud mom of 2 children, how blessed could one person get--1 little boy and 1 little girl.  Beautiful duo in perfect health!!

Yeah, I really like this lil' sister thing.....

July 11, 2015

When you first came home I remember that I wasn't sure what to think about this whole little sister addition to my world....but what can I say, you kind of grew on me.
It didn't take but a few days and I'd come to the conclusion that you were actually a whole lot of fun to have around. We quickly became inseperable. I remember you had very big blue eyes....I mean REALLY big, like milk saucers :-)

Her Birthday......

July 11, 2015

"Angeline !! --Jaci needs you !! "  Daddy said as he woke my Mom to my calling her.  My water had broken and I sensed it would not be too long , since I had been in the hospital the previous week and found you were coming previa - placenta.  Sure enough, we just made it to the hospital. Needless to say, all was natural delivery and the rough old German doctor picked you up by your feet and flopped you on my stomach to help remove the placenta and to hear that precious cry!  Added joy to my ears--" IT'S A GIRL"!!!   To join  her lil brother Ricky who had been born Oct. 28,1960----ANGELYNN JANE  named after my Mom ANGELINE changed to end in LYNN after me--Daddy didn't care for LINE anyway. Here you were at 1:27 in the a.m. on that chilly spring morning of born May 27th,1962. My beautiful baby girl.
