Her Life

Anne's Childhood

January 7, 2016

Anne was born August 12, 1945, among the very first of the baby-boomer generation in New York City. She first lived in a house in the neighborhood of Woodside in the borough of Queens, NYC. This neighborhood at the time was a hotbed of Irish immigrant families, Anne's family the Keenans were first and generation Americans, her grandparents generation having come from Ireland. Following her time in Queens Anne's family moved to Mineola, NY on Long Island, there they had a little more space, and even a garage ( see picture of mixing the concrete for the garage's foundation in the picture section of this site)! In 1955 Anne's family moved to Chicago Heights, IL a suburb of Chicago because her father Hubie who worked for Eastman Kodak was transferred to Chicago with the company (see Anne's letter to her father while he was searching for a new home for the family in Illinois in the picture section). Anne attended High School in Chicago Heights and lived there until she left for college.
