Sevilla FC requested to retire the number 16 shirt but the Spanish football authoroties told them that all players that play must play in numbers 1-25. Now the youngsters who progress from the youth team to the 1st team wear number 16 in honour of Antonio. There are also 2 trophies played for in honour of Antonio, 1 is played in August the other in November, both months reflecting both Antonio's Anniversary and his birthday. A statue was erected on the 27/04/10, 4 years to the date he scored the winning goal in the semi's of the Europa league (has it's now known) in Nervion where Antonio was born and raised and where Sevilla's training ground is situated. There is also a school in his name. Has recently has last year (2012), a petition was signed getting more than over a million signatures for a street in Seville to be named after the young budding footballer, this happened this year (2013) Calle Antonio Puerta again in the district the youngster spent his childhood & young life.... 

Antonio's girlfriend Mar gave birth to the couples son on 22/10/07 just short of 2 months since Antonio had passed. Aitor was made a member of Sevilla FC moments after his birth. If Aitor does follow in his dad's footsteps he will be offered the number 16 shirt, the shirt Antonio wore the season before is untimely passing.

Born on 26/11/84, at the age of 6 he began playing for Sevilla kids team, progressed up to the 1st team making his debut on the 23/03/06. Came on has a sub on the 27/04/06 to score the winner in the semi finals of the europa cup, won 5 trophies in 17 months. Until tradegy struck. on the 25/08/07 what was the 1st game of La liga season, Antonio collapsed and was able to leave the field on his own two feet. but in the dressing room, he collapsed again and was rushed to hospital where after a 3 day fight for life in the local hospital's ICU Antonio died of AVRD aged 22. In the 16th minute of every Sevilla home game, the crowd sing his name. In Spains recent successes both Sergio Ramos & Jesus Navas wore tributes to their deceased friend whom they both played alongside in Sevilla. Sergio also wears number 15 in memory of his deceased friend has this was the number Antonio debuted with on the 07/10/06 for the Spain NT. Sadly missed by fans and Sevilla fc alike. His memory will live forever.
