One day while in Pittsburgh he was introduced to Shirley Frank by his sister Marlene. Shirley & Marlene were classmates in high school. Arthur & Shirley dated for two years before Arthur enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951. He enlisted while the Korean War was taking place...and served for four years. While in the Navy he was assigned to ship LST 551. While on the ship he advanced to the rank of Electrician Third Class.
