DEATH SHALL FACE DEATH ONE DAY! (If not for Asiwaju)

August 11, 2014
seeking heaven alone

In July 1986 during a meeting of St. Luke's Society, a senior in age member was referred to with a name that was inglorious "material benefit" just becasue he was not working then. I stood up to the challenge that that was not fair to the person. If a job seeking graduate of the society can be tagged with such name, what is the faith of those of us still in the higher institution then? I resolved not to attend the meeting again until I am gainfully employed.

Meanwhile, right from the formation of the socirty to replace Catholic Workers Association in the Church, some members of St. luke's Society were not happy that the society was loaded with students but for Uncle Mike Olagunju who insisted that the society has a greater future with such members - Alas greater future with students? consumers? instead of viable members?

It was realy frustrating as he ( Asiwaju) was struggling tooth and nail to see that the society is alive and up and doing but these efforts were not complemented as some members still felt that we should be purged out. ASIWAJU STOOD HIS GROUND! Our attitudes too were not helping matters as we were determined too not to attend any of their fuctions until we are gainfully employed.

Incidentally, on October 18, 1986, Asiwaju was at home for the Society anniversary and he insisted I should join the Society for their anniversary thanksgiving! I did but reluctantly as i dare not say no to his instruction. After Mass, he bundled me into his car and off to the venue of entertainment again. I was already envisaging that the issue of material benefits will come up again so I was prepared to face the worst and take the worst decision regarding my faith, so I prayed that the issue will not come up for discussion but it was raise, I was summoned to the prosecution box and bombarded with questions! With my stubbornes and yet in humility for best regards to elders, I answered and my responses got more financial members infruriated except Asiwaju!

When the judgement was to be passed or were already been passed that I should be @ex-communicated" from the society wwhich would have automatically translated to me leaving the church for "them"; Asiwaju Michael Adebayo Ololade Olagunju's voice heralded in the meeting and there wass silence like a graveyard - I said in my mind that "o pari, abuke ni yi o lodo eni to feran wa" but alas his judgements has been he source of my strenght like date. He said and I qoute interpreting in my best capacity " why are we castigating this my son? How many of them are the supposed offender that you were bombarding only him? Is it because some of them backed our cowardly in challenging us for our wrong deed? Why should we use such derogarory word - material benefit for our children? The egg we see today  become cock tomorrow. I therefore apologise to you Femi and your friends  - my children that you are with us and must be with us. You must always come to the meetings, share your experiences, contribute positively because we are opened to cirticism. Your generation is exposed than we"

The remaining is history because to the glory of God St. Luke's Society is the foremost society in St. Anthony's Catholic Church Parish, Aagba in all positive contributions with others we have overtaken struggling to equal our records.

Since Saturday August 9, 2014 that I heard the passing of this our hero, I have been ruminating and I have been taken solace in 1 Corithians Chapter 16: 35  to 58 because death has actually taken its toll on St Luke's Society - Imagine the likes of Engineer Williams Ayo Adesina,  Pa Stephen Okunola and Pa. R. A Fashina and now Asiwaju Bayo Olagunju! ha! this is one death too many!

But what shall we say, check out for the secret truth in 1 corithainas 15:51 -52 and say Wher, Death is your victory? Where , Death is your power to hurt? knowing that Death too shall be destroyed one day, that is why I say we should model our lifes the way Asiwaju bayo Olagunju did - He who abadons himself to God will never be abandoned by God because the will of God will never leave you where the grace of God cannot keep you. E sun re o , A fe yin sugbon Jesu Olugabla fe yin ju.
