Her Life

Ms. Spraggins was born in Troup County, Tuesday, July 19, 1932, the daughter of the late Thomas Julien “Jules” and Nellie Eva Harp Spraggins.  She was the tenth of eleven children.  The family lived near West Point on the Spraggins/Reed Road and attended Reeds Chapel Baptist Church.  In 1946, after World War II, the family bought a farm on what is now the Shoemaker Road and Betty lived there for 50 years.  Betty enjoyed puzzles, Old Maids, paint by numbers, and coloring.  She was the pet of the nursing home where she collected her BINGO prizes, enjoyed passing out newspapers and following the staff around.

 

Survivors include her sister, Vera Garsee; her nieces and nephews, Buddy Spraggins, Charlie Lashley, Phillip Butler, Preston Butler, Kenneth Butler, Shelia Power, Phyllis Edwards, Patty Gray, Jesse Garsee, Waymond Garsee, John Garsee, Karen Beard, and John Whaley.  She was preceded in death by her siblings, Tom Spraggins, Ola “Sissy” Reed, Eula S. Lashley, Eunice S. Butler, Mary S. Morrow, George Marion Spraggins, Sara S. Evans, Vera S. Garsee, Lewis Spraggins, and Barbara “Bobbie” S. Whaley.
