His Life

All About Bill

October 3, 2014

Born in Portland Oregon on September 8, 1955. When he was six months old his family moved to Bellevue Washington where they resided until he was seven years old. At that time they moved to May Valley. Bill must have fallen in love with May Valley at that early age because that is where he resided for most of the remainder of his life. He had fond childhood memories of growing up there with his siblings, Kitty, Dan and Gerry, riding his bike to May Valley elementary school, playing baseball in the Coal Creek Little League, and getting into mischief with friends who also lived in the valley.

In his early teenage years he met Tim Bartholomew, Rick Fletcher and Steve Bentley. The four of them developed a close and wonderful friendship that has lasted through the years to this very day.  He was lucky to have such good friends.

In 1976 he met Diana who he married in 1980.  Together they raised horses, dogs, cats, a snake, a house trained bunny and many birds. But of course the pride of his life were the twins sons he and Diana had. Bill dedicated his life to ensuring they had every opportunity to do the things they loved to do. He spent uncountable hours by the soccer fields watching them play or referee, driving them to band practice or ski lessons, watching them wrestle, play baseball or what ever the interest of the day was.

When the child rearing days were over Bill took up hobbies of his own. These included mountain biking, wood turning, rock hounding, gem cutting and making Diana happy by riding horses with her. His favorite place to ride his bike was Duthie Hill bike park. He would try to go there at least once a week. He taught himself how to make items on a small lathe, all of which he gave away to friends and relatives. He found that he had the patience to make beautiful faceted gems but because it took so long he only managed to make two of those.

He and Diana spent some time traveling as well. They went to Yellowstone, Virginia, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, Florida, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and took many trips to California.

Bill never had a passion for one career path but rather had a passion to work hard and do any job he had with absolute dedication and to the very best of his ability. Over the years he worked at a plastic bag factory, built computers, was an electrician and was a water and sewer technician.

Bill’s lifelong hobbies were talking to people, laughing, joking, telling corny jokes, teasing people with his quick wit and helping anyone who asked or who he felt needed help.

In July Bill unexpectedly suffered a heart attack which eventually claimed his life on September 22. He was the most giving and thoughtful person you could ever meet. He will be missed by all who knew him.
