His Life

Motorcycle Adventures

February 20, 2017

He did two tours of Europe on motorcycles. He met so many amazing people on these trips who remained life long friends. Among the places he reminsced about on these tours:

Turkey - Old Silk Road and Cappadocia.

Alps - Including riding through the Mount Blanc tunnel and the beauty of the town Cortina de' Ampezzo.

He had the motorcycle from his last tour shipped to Hawaii and continued his adventures by taking his great niece (Gabbie Kruse) and nephew (Tony Kruse) on a ride in the side car (pictured in 2012).

He shipped it to the mainland and at the age of 79 rode it from LA to Hesparia, CA. He finally sold the motorcycle in 2015 when it was evident his strength wouldn't allow him to ride it again.

South Pacific Adventures

February 20, 2017

He spent quite a bit of time in the South Pacific. He loved the people and the weather. One of his sailing adventures as crew ended in New Zealand so he decided to live there for a while. He even left a kidney there I believe but 'was lucky' the doctors were amazing.

1964-Sailed 4000+ miles

February 20, 2017

He mapped out his sailing adventures on a globe and they don't all fit in a single picture.

I believe his first trip down the coast of North America was with his friends who taught him to sail. He was a member of their crew.  He then worked for a family on trip that led him from San Francisco down to Mexico and across to the South Pacific (French Polynesia, the Tortolas, Tonga) and ultimately to New Zealand.

He said he was very lucky on his sailing adventures (and in life). He never had a near fatal experience or thought the boat wouldn't make it. He did share that he woke up in time to save the family he was crewing for from running their boat into the coast of an island.
