Charles “Charlie” Clifton Moorefield, age 89, died Monday, December 11, 2017, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina.

He was a native of Henderson, North Carolina, and the son of the late Charles Moorefield and Alma Smith Moorefield. Mr. Moorefield was a devoted member of Oxford Baptist Church and the Bob Wainwright Sunday School Class. He was retired from the maintenance department at Central Regional Hospital, Butner, North Carolina.

Surviving are his step-daughter, Judy Critcher Abbott of Oxford, North Carolina, two nieces, two nephews, and two very special friends, Ed Geercken of Stem, N.C., and Marshall Floyd of Oxford, N.C. He was predeceased by hos devoted and loving wife of more than 54 years, Annie Hite Moorefield, and by his brother, Robert Ray “Bud” Moorefield, Sr.

Mr. Moorefield enjoyed singing and playing old-fashioned country, gospel, and bluegrass music on his guitar. Clients at the Granville County Senior looked forward to hearing his favorite song, “I’m Using My Bible for a Roadmap.” Charlie always had a kind word or a thoughtful gesture for those around him.

There will be a private graveside service. Memorials may be made to Oxford Baptist Church or the Granville County Animal Shelter. Eakes Funeral Home is assisting the family.
