He was a WWII Veteran of the Battle of the Bulge. In 1951 he relocated with his family to Butner, N.C. with Mt. Hope Finishing Co. where he worked for 48 years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mr Dunne was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary and his son Peter M. Dunne as well as his grandson, Joel D. He is survived by his daughter, Mary D. Utley of the home; a son, Daniel J. Dunne III and wife Susan of Pfafftown, N.C.; grandson, Barry Dunne also of Pfafftown, N.C.; great-granddaughters, Gracelyn and Lillie of Winston Salem. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

There will be no immediate plans for a Memorial Service as it was Dad’s request that we remember him for the person he was, his smile and caring and thoughtful man he always tried to be.

I will never forget my tall, humble, gentlemanly Great Uncle Dan.  He would drive annually to visit us, from North Carolina and always had a long car that told me, Uncle Dan is here!!  People say this, but I assure you, they do not make men like him anymore.  The kindest soul and a presence that exemplified what a true gentleman is.  I am honored to have known him and wish my family in N.C. my deepest sympathy.  With his military service, my family is thankful to have the freedom and the lineage to continue our family legacy.   I love you Uncle Dan

Uncle Dan was a gentle soul who gave so much love to so many people. He was caring, humorous, and a dapper dresser. Uncle Dan visited Doug and I at our home in Maine several times-never too far to travel to see those he loved. We will miss his smile and kind and gentle ways. We send our prayers, thoughts, and much love to Mary.

Dear Uncle Dan, You were a wonderful uncle ~ so very kind and sweet! I will always remember our visits and the fun we had together. You were thoughtful enough to let my Mom, Dean & I announce our engagement at a family party at your home... Uncle Dan, You were the rock that your family could always lean on, a true friend through the darkest moments, and your extended family honors and misses you always.
Love, Cousin Nancy Jenest Holt, Dean Holt, Ashley & Dean Holt II
