My brother

March 1, 2014

I am sharing a couple of pictures of Don and his extended family that were taken at Don & Shirley’s home in November 1983.  There were so many of us spread over so many places it was one of the few times when we were all together at one time.

I miss Don everyday.  He was such a quiet, thoughtful, loving man.

After my husband died he would gladly offer to do little chores around my place that I didn’t know how to do or couldn’t do. And give advice about anything I might ask.  Sometimes he would just come for a visit and we would reminisce, mostly about our wonderful parents and our lives and adventures of  being brought up in the beautiful mountains at Brule.

He loved and was very proud, and rightly so, of his family - Dave, Michelle, Deb & Rob.  His beautiful granddaughters Isobel and Charlotte were so so special to him.

Fond Memories

February 25, 2014

One of my fondest memories of Don was spent this last Christmas with our families together.  It has been a family tradition that either Dave or myself carve the turkey.  This year, however, Dave elected his Dad to do the honors explaining how he was the "BEST CARVER".  His Dad........hesitated......and reluctantly accepted this task only because he had NEVER carved a turkey in his life.............but he carved it so slowly, precisely, and beautiful.
Dave was right.

Rocks rock

February 24, 2014

Papa loved rocks of all shapes and sizes and he shared that passion with his grandchildren, Isobel and Charlotte. A favourite memory they have of him is collecting buckets full of rocks out at the lake. And when the bucket got too full, the rocks ended up filling his pockets for safe keeping. Once back home he would break out the blue velvet Crown Royal bag full of polished stones. The girls would then spend endless hours sorting and admiring his well loved collections.

VROOM VROOM

February 24, 2014

This story is taken from the Stady Memory Album, written by Doreen Stady:

"I remember Don coming home late at night when he had his black and red Dodge (that was a really nice looking car.) Everyone else would be asleep in bed and he would pump his Hollywood muffler a few times - VROOM VROOM VROOM! It seems funny now that he would announce his homecoming this way, but I know he really liked his Hollywood muffler."
