Biography
Dr. Joseph Appolinaire Meyinsse was born on December 22, 1952, in Nima, a suburb of the capital city Accra, Ghana, to Madam Theresa Adormenyo and Mr. Paul Appolinaire Megnisse of blessed memory. Dr. Meyinsse obtained a B.S. in Pure Mathematics from Knoxville College, Tennessee then continued his pursuit of higher education at Southern University and A&M College where he received a M.S. in Applied Mathematics and a M.S. in Computer Science. He later received his Ph. D in Mathematics Education from LSU.
Dr. Meyinsse taught at Southern University, his Alma Mater for 30 years. He held various positions while at Southern University; these include Chair of the Department of Mathematics, Dean of the Graduate School, and Chair of the Department of Science/Mathematics Education, Interim Dean of Graduate Studies, and Professor of Mathematics and Program Leader. He also coordinated various international educational programs. Dr. Meyinsse was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Phi Delta Kappa International Association for Educators.
Dr. Meyinsse was called to eternity on Sunday, November 3, 2013. He was a simple man who will be deeply missed. He was affable, kindhearted, approachable, eloquent, a unifier, ready to share and above all God fearing. He was a leader in the community and a pillar on which his family and many others leaned. Dr. Meyinsse was a loving husband, father and brother. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Patricia McLean-Meyinsse and his son, Mr. Jerome Meyinsse.
