O God, whose mercies cannot be numbered: Accept our prayers on behalf of your servant Edna, and grant her an entrance into the land of light and joy, in the fellowship of your saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Edna came into our lives in 1979 and was an integral part of our family for approximately 15 years. She was our surrogate mother, grandmother, spiritual advisor, and psychiatrist as well as ably running our household. Her faith in God, her character, her intelligence, wit, and charm and her ability to do most anything well make her truly one of a kind. My family and I loved her dearly and I thank God for bringing her into our lives.
I would often hear her humming or singing and would ask her what was the name of the song. Invariably it was a hymn and I am sure one of those hymns was "My Shepherd will Supply My Need." The words are so applicable to the way she lived her life:
My Shepherd will supply my need, Jehovah is his name;
in pastures fresh he makes me feed beside the living stream.
He brings my wandering spirit back when I forsake his ways,
and leads me, for his mercy's sake, in paths of truth and grace.
When I walk through the shades of death, thy presence is my stay;
one word of thy supporting breath drives all my fears away.
Thy hand, in sight of all my foes, doth still my table spread;
my cup with blessings overflows, thy oil anoints my head.
The sure provisions of my God attend me all my days; oh,
may thy house be mine abode and all my work be praise.
There would I find a settled rest, while others go and come;
no more a stranger or a guest, but like a child at home.
