Elijah Brent Meadows, of Oxford, NC died July 23, 2013 at his home.  He was born May 28, 1017, and was 96 years old.  He was the son of Doctor Brodie Meadows, and his wife Julia Clement Meadows.

Meadows attended Stem High School, where he was the last surviving member of the famous Stem High School Basketball Team that beat Carolina.

He was foremost a farmer, as he cared for the family farm in youth, and continued as an adult.

At one time he was half owner of Oxford Ace Hardware and half owner of Oxford Implement Company.  Later he was sole owner of Oxford Implement Company until he retired in 1998.

He and Helen, his wife, also developed, owned, and operated Meadowview Memorial Park for a number of years.

Meadows was a life long member of Geneva Presbyterian Church,  which is located next to the family homeplace, and is built on land given by his ancestors.  He served as Deacon, Elder, and sang in the choir.

He was a member of various farm organizations, as well as the NC Grange, the Rotary Club, and the Men’s Garden Club.  Together with his wife, they also loved the Bridge Club, Supper Club, and the Dance Club.

Meadows loved people, his customers, and his family.  He never met a “stranger”.

He was also a Representative of the International Farm Tour, of the NC Agriculture Dept, that went overseas promoting NC tobacco.

The family wishes to thank all the caregivers for their devotion to Brenda’s parents; they have worked tirelessly to make sure Brent and Helen had the best of care.  The family also wishes to thank Dr. Day and his staff.

He was also predeceased by his parents, and his brothers and sisters.

He is also survived by various nieces, nephews, a sister n law, Hazel Meadows of Wilson, NC, and special neice and her husband, Lila and Al Overby, who have been instrumental in his care.

Brenda: it was always a pleasure to visit with your Mother and Father in their home. They enjoyed the senior adult trips we planned at church and especially enjoyed day trips to West Jefferson and theater trips to Chrysler Theater in Norfolk VA several years ago. The sight of your Dad driving that old beat-up truck will stick with me forever. Love to you and yours.
