His Life

A Tribute for My Dad

Dad was raised by his parents with firm values of service to family, community, nation and God. He exhibited seventy years of dedication to his family, the military, veterans, religious and community organizations.

He was a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved history, 
classical music, politics, genealogy and the military, as well as a little brandy and 
a touch of scotch and was most happy when those thing intersected! Dad was an
NRA member, life-long Republican and was more recently active in the Tea Party
of Virginia.

Gene served in the U. S. Army in Korea and later on the Army Staff at the
Pentagon in two different positions. He held the post of Vice Commander
at an American Legion post and attained the rank of Commander in the
Buffalo and Syracuse, New York Groups of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a licensed
private pilot and Member of the Airline Owners and Pilots Association.

His community endeavors included the Boards of Virginia Wesleyan University and Haygood United Methodist Church and he was Chairman of the Council of 
Civic Organizations, all in Virginia Beach,Virginia.

He is survived by a brother and three sisters, three sons, two daughters, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
both parents, his first wife, four brothers and four sisters.


Gene passed away in Harrisonburg, Virginia and was buried at Quantico National Cemetery with military honors on Friday, March 11, 2016. A memorial service was held at Dayton United Methodist Church in Dayton,Virginia on March 12, 2016. 

After 88 years, may you Rest in Peace, Dad.
