IN LOVING MEMORY OF OUR MOTHER EUNICE NWONUKWUE

June 27, 2014

This memorial was created in honor of ”MAMA" EUNICE CHIDIMMA NWONUKWUE of Lilburn, Georgia.

Mama Eunice Nwonukwue went to her heavenly home in the early hours of Thursday June 19, 2014 in Lilburn Georgia after a fulfilled life. She was born on August 6th 1931, into the Egenti family of Ifite village,  Enugwu- Agidi, Njikioka local Government Area, Anambra State, Nigeria, West Africa. Her heritage is strongly rooted in Nri clan, Njikoka local Government Area as her mother was from Agu-ukwu Nri.

The third child of four children and the second girl. She had two sisters and a brother. At an early age, she was taken to Kaduna, Northern Nigeria by her elder sister who was then newly married and was raised in Kaduna with her elder sisters's three sons before she was sent off to school.

She was married as a very young bride to the Late Mr. Godfrey Umeadi Tagbo Nwonukwue of Mmimi village, Nawfia, Anambra state, Nigeria who was then a staff of the Federal Ministry of Works Enugu. From there, they were transferred to Ahoda and subsequently to Port-Harcourt, both in Rivers State where she had all her children- Late Miss Ekwutosi Evelyn Nwonukwue, Mr.Chukwunwike Tagbo Godson Nwonukwue, Late Chukwunonso Nwonukwue and Mrs. Ifeoma Onochie nee Nwonukwue, fondly called 'Ify' Onochie. After the war in 1970, they moved to Onitsha, Anambra State on transfer and settled into a new life, having lost their precious first daughter Ekwutosi, who passed away after a very brief illness during the war at a young age of sixteen. They were heartbroken but the grace of God saw them through the grieving period.

Mama, as she was fondly called by everyone enjoyed, cooking, knitting and sewing. She was an acknowledged devout Christian. She enjoyed singing gospel songs so much and attending church. In her early years, she spent a good portion of her time singing and was the lead singer in her church choir and got a lot of inspiration from the scriptures. Her melodious voice was very soothing and uplifting. She was a hard working woman who held a variety of trades throughout her active lifetime while raising her children. She subsequently worked at Comprehensive Secondary School, Nawfia, Anambra State Nigeria and eventually got transferred to Girls secondary school, Ifite-Ukpo, Anambra state, where she finally retired.

She later joined her daughter Ify Onochie and her husband Ifeanyi Onochie in Georgia USA in 2001 where she spent the last thirteen years of her life. She was a mother to so many children whom she raised alongside her own children. She was loved both in Nigeria and Atlanta community.

Mother of Ify Onochie, Host & Executive Producer of The Ify Show. She was a lifelong supporter of her daughter’s projects. Her contributions in both the script writing and storytelling background delivered a profound influence on Ify Onochie’s role as a script writer.
Mrs. Eunice Nwonukwue is survived by two Children and their spouses, six step children, many grandchildren, God sons and daughters, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mama spoke two Nigerian languages fluently- Hausa and Igbo. Mama was loved by many and had an incredible sense of humor and deep love for her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all friends and family.
