My grandma was an amazing woman. She was strong, independant and always full of joy. Some of my fondest memories were when my cousins and I would go visit her in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She would always listen intently to our stories about school and life. I have the upmost respect for her contributions to our family and our nation. She will be missed and always loved by us.

Mother

May 17, 2012

5 little kids all growing up in a household full of Love. A beautiful mother and widow with a Loss of her own.  We never thought we were poor. We had nearly everything we wanted. We traveled many places, We lived in a neigborhood with alot of friends and great memories. Mom always had cinammon rolls after school on a rainy day.  I call them "rainy day cin rolls" still today.  She allowed us to be so creative.  She let me checkerboard paint (black & white) my brothers bedroom walls and I could always change the furniture around in any room just as long as I cleaned under everything.  Mom let us have dogs, snakes, birds. those silly parakeets would eat eggs at the table with us and walk all over the table.  We never thought it to be unsanitary. I would always stand in the hallway or behind a door in the house just listening to mom and Oleta talk about EVERYTHING.  It was a fun life to grow up in. She always let me walk in the rain late at night on a weekend and we use to pull up the throw carpet from the livingroom floor and roller skate all through the house.  We had a big house and we never locked the front door to anybody.  It was such an adventure going to  Granny Penny's in Union, MO. and listening to mom and her two sisters, Jin and Margaret catch up on "stuff".  We never were afraid and always laughing.  Life was just delightful growing UP............Thanks mom for letting me...............be.........ME.......

My mom

May 14, 2012

Mom did a wonderful job raising 5 kids all by herself.  She had us in everything, scouts, campfire, legion, sports, dance, whatever we were interested in, she was there.  We went camping at spring creek every summer with the Gilmores.  We took our annual trip to Missouri to visit family.  The times we went to Missouri was just the greatest, even though it was just to Union and Hermon, Missouri, it was like going on a long journey.  We would stop along the way at creeks and rivers to cool off and eat lunch, then back on the road to granny's.  "are we there yet"?  When we reached the driveway of Aunt Jin's, we would start honking the horn to let them know we were there.  I remember the gravel drive sound...we were there!  We even took the train a few times.  Mom would entrust the lives of her 3 little precious girls to the train conductor to get us to St Louis safely while she and the boys drove down.  We met up with magicians and people of all types.  What an adventure.  Then granny and Aunt Jin would meet us in St. Louis and we would drive on in to Union.  When we went camping, we never needed anything, just a blanket and a pillow, slept right there on the ground next to the creek, never giving a second thought to all the critters and things that might get us.  Heck, we even played cars underneath the house on Haskell and never thought about any snakes or spiders or anything we might encounter.  We grew up thinking we had everything, and we did, cause we had a mom like our mom.  There is so much more to say about my momma.  Mom, I love you!  Mom, I miss you!  Mom, thank you!

Squash and other oddities at the poes!!!

May 14, 2012

Grandma Poe was a great cook, to all who love what she cooks hehehe. Grandma and others will all agree I have let say a pickyness about food, I never have been sure why grandma picked squash or even that night to try and teach my hard head somethin. She puts it down with some good porkchops i gobble down the meat and race to say "Im finished" she said no, that I was setting there until they were gone...... bed time came and went. Breakfast Nate, Dillion, cereal GUY.......... boiled squash... I was stunned at the resolve of my greatest grandma... yeah that didnt work either heheheh.
She had a pool I thought was the coolest ever, at least once a summer to grandmas we went to swim and grandma would always talk Grandpa Poe into a ride on the three wheeler. My grandma had a wonderful joyous side that can never be duplicated. A sign hung on the pool and as a child and i would laugh at the no nudity UNTIL 9pm...... I  got older and put the decorations of poes garage to the sign.... full of life right till the end and beyond to those who knew grandma a HUGH SMILE and  hug was all ways waitin at grandma poe's.
love your grandson,
Guy Warner
