A native of Columbus, he was the son of the late Tom and Johnnie Mae Simpson Clark. He had been employed as an Automobile Mechanic at Fast Auto Electric. A 1973 graduate of Kendrick High School, he attended Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Darwin Snelling and a sister, Miriam Davis. Surviving are a daughter, Felicia Hicks(Derrick); seven grandchildren; his life partner, Robbin Lee; two brothers, Thomas Snelling and Darrell Snelling(Linda); and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
