My mother and father met in 1962 while he was a medical student at Indiana University School of Medicine and my mother was a nursing student at Marion County General Hospital School of Nursing (Wishard). My mother had gone in to the snack bar at Marion County General--my father was also in the snack bar with another medical student, and my mother caught my father's eye. Soon after this event, my mother received a phone call from my father asking for a date and the rest was history.  My mother says that on their dates, they would often split a hamburger because they had such little money and even ran out of gas a few times.
