His Life

Worthy of Admiration

May 31, 2010

Everyone knew Gary, so there isn't much I can say about his life that people don't already know. But what I can do is explain the impact his life has had on so many people. See, even though he has reached the ultimate goal and moved on to be with the Lord, his life and lessons will live on through his family.

Gary was a humble man. He was a star when it came to sports. As many know, he is one of very few people to letter in 3 sports (football, basketball and baseball) at 3 different high schools. He recieved a full scholarship to Clemson University to play football. And he took advantage of the opportunity to complete his education which helped him throughout the rest of his life.

Gary went on to help build 2 very large companies as a Human Resource Manager for M.A.N. Truck & Bus as well as Freightleiner LLC. He helped out a lot of people (including myself) by getting them jobs there. Even family members, which was technically against the rules. He truely helped carry that company for a long time and made a difference for a lot of employees who work there.

He also had a passion for horses. From the time he was a young man, he taught himself all there was to know about horses. He started out with a few quarter horses, mainly because they were good for riding. Also, they weren't too big for all of the kids to ride. Later on, as we all got older and stopped riding, he and mom dove head first into the paint horse business. And it shouldn't come as a surprise that they found success pretty quickly. They took their horses to shows from here to Texas and everywhere in between. And at every stop they came home with trophies. Not the least of which was 'AQHA World Champion' as well as a 'Reserve World Champion'.

But with all of his successes in life, Gary's greatest accomplishment was his unwaivering faith in God. He always gave the Lord credit for his success and told all of us that if we would just trust in him, things will be just fine. And I know first hand, he was right. He never once doubted that the Lord would take care of him and his family. All we had to do is pray. Not only did he believe, he taught us all to just believe and live our lives by the bible.

Gary was always calm and relaxed in almost any situation. No matter what problems came his way, he trusted that it would work out. He would always take on the problems of his kids as well. And we would always look to him for guidance. No matter how big the problem was to us, he could immediately make it a small problem or no problem at all. He was very wise and always caring. And he would never put a price on his kids. No matter what it took, he would make sure they were all okay.

And at last, Gary was a wonderful husband to my mom. I will always thank God for blessing her with such a great man. He was a tremendous influence on her life as well as the lives of her kids. He taught us all so much about life in general that we will keep with us forever. He helped bring God into our home and showed us what it meant to believe in him. Gary loved mom with all of his heart and never once let her down. Naturally, the loss of such a kind caring man has been hard for her. But the one thing we all know is that he will never leave her side. He will continue to be with her every step of the way and continue loving her just as he always has.

So, to one of the greatest men God ever created, Thank you! We anxiously await the day when we are  together again. And I know you are making a great place for us in heaven. We love you!
