Surrounded by family, Gene Jones Finch, 87, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019 at her home in Oxford, NC.  She was born in Granville County on March 24, 1932 to the late George and Estelle Bullock.  She is predeceased by her husbands, Bernard A. Jones, Sr. and Dr. Charlie B. Finch.

Gene was a member of Oxford Baptist Church.  She was a graduate of Oxford High School and Watts Nursing School.  She was a registered nurse before becoming a mother to her four children, grandmother to ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  Gene loved to spend time with her family, cook, arrange flowers, paint, and talk with family and friends on the phone.

She is survived by her children, Bernard A. Jones, Jr. (Nancy), Pamela J. Jamieson (Dave), David M. Jones (Tamara), and Tempie J. Forbes (Kenny); her grandchildren, Timothy Jones (Katherine), Katherine East (Thomas), Hannah Jackson (Asher), Jodi Hoover (Mickey Fried), Danielle Hoover, Stephen Johnson (Liala), Jennifer Johnson (Eva), Colle A. Jones (Molly), Karen Hughes (Taylor), and Kenny G. Forbes (Morgan); her great-grandchildren, Emmaleigh East, Annabelle East, Michael East, Amelia Johnson, Kalyna Johnson, Cayden Jones, Rylan Jones, Craigan Hughes, and Carmen Forbes; her sister, Betsy Currin (Ben); numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and many extended family and friends. 

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 2nd, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Elmwood Cemetery, Oxford, NC. by Rev. Chris Aho. Visitation will follow the graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery.  

Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made in Gene’s name to the Charlie Bryan Finch Memorial Medical Scholarship through Oxford Baptist Church, PO Box 398, Oxford, NC 27565.
